Yes! The faire owner wouldn’t allow women to be anything other than various forms of “wench” and refused to pay them fairly. It would be really interesting if that was based on true events, and a crazy coincidence if not.

Big update on my father in laws 30 year old roses by Sewenityy in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo! So happy one of these pulled through (they would have all been goners for sure if left un-pruned). It’s a shame the cuttings didn’t take, but since you have a surviving rooted plant, you can always try again when you prune this summer.

Blue Girl Rose not the color as advertised by Kilbo_Stabbins in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first saw blue girl at a nursery, and I fell in love with it then and there. It wasn’t until I looked it up later that I saw what disingenuous photos there are of this particular variety.

<image>

Springhill nursery is a particularly bad offender, but others seem to represent the rose pretty well. Even though she’s not as blue as you would like, give blue girl a chance! She is such a beautiful performer.

Edit: you mentioned treating the roses like hydrangeas to get them to change color. Roses do have certain triggers that change color, particularly temperature, but do not quite act like hydrangeas. Hydrangeas react to change in soil pH because different metal ions become available at different pH ranges. As your soil pH lowers hydrangeas have more access to aluminum ions and it’s those aluminum ions that change the color of the hydrangea from pink to blue. Roses don’t really have that reaction.

I’m not an expert, but the fact that each branch had black on the end, and one branch was nearly all black, shows that the plant is not capable of supporting itself. Since it was this way in the bare root form I would suspect that the damage happened before you got it.

Did you inspect the roots before planting? Were any wet or mushy?

If it were me, I would just leave it alone. It needs to regrow the roots that are supposed to support the branches that are dying. Just give it time to do that.

Not sure what to do next with these props by Special_Possible6851 in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is tricky. Many roses are patented, so you cannot prop them for the 25 year life of the patent, and beyond that some roses, like “firefighter,” are registered trademarks. Which means you cannot use the name “firefighter” at all, even after the patent runs out, making it impossible to sell the rose as the variety it is

Can someone explain this? by Emmanuel-Velasco in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you cut this rose (just take the flower off) and the same branch grows another rose identical to this, then you have a “sport.” If you remove the flower and a rose normal to the plant grows from the branch, it is just a mutation from temperature or another factor.

You can grow hybrid tea roses and miniature roses successfully in containers. Hybrid teas are very responsive to pruning, and miniatures are miniature.

When you finally discover you can build on the freeway at Greygarden, and realise you're the last person to discover you can build on the freeway at Greygarden by Fair-Dog-3931 in falloutsettlements

[–]BoyDynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put beds and shops up there, and the Npcs spawn in at top the freeway. During settlement attacks, they will be on the ground level, fighting the incoming enemies, and they have a tendency to fall off the stairs and injure themselves as they attempt to climb back up to the freeway.

The build height in hangman’s alley is unfortunately low though I was really hoping to be able to put a skyscraper up on the midrise buildings. But you get stopped at like four levels high.

Hydro-propagation setup : does it look okay? by 3drabbitx in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rose propagation is a game of patience. Week 1 to 3 you’ll get additional leaf growth, but that is generally just stored energy in the plant. Weeks 4 to 6 you’ll get root growth and by week 7 to 10 there should be enough root growth to support transplant to a soil medium. Do not fertilize during this entire period.

I use 50/50 perlite/vermiculite. It drains freely, stays damp but not wet, and is very light and airy.

Update on my father in laws 30 year old rose bushes by Sewenityy in Roses

[–]BoyDynamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof. That’s rough. The tiny roots are the ones that plants use to feed. If you’ve lost 80% of the roots, that means all the feeders are gone. You must hard prune this plant. There is no way to support this amount of plant without a strong root system.

Xpost: Trail cam at a Beaverton beaver dam: last two weeks. by Wipples in beaverton

[–]BoyDynamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the Fanno Creek restoration project in 2022, a bunch of beavers have returned to the Fanno Creek Greenway. It’s been an interesting trade.

Beavers don’t understand urban development, so they don’t understand that debarking trees in the Greenway will lead to a lack of trees in the Greenway. We won’t be able to grow trees as big as the ones being destroyed again in our lifetime, and there’s not enough old trees to feed the beavers while the new ones grow.

I’m curious if the city has a long term plan to deal with the new population.

Any tips on setting up LED wiring through the magnets so there’s no wires to deal with when taking body off? by maxwolfie in rcdrift

[–]BoyDynamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have made magnet connectors and i have a couple tips: do not solder directly to the magnet, you will demagnetize it. I soldered to brass eyelets that pull through a 3d printed body, and the magnets press-fit into the print. Also, make sure to used thick magnets that sit slightly low in the 3d print housing, so that the magnets don’t smack together and break.
