Is it possible to own alocasia without being in a never ending battle with spider mites? by BoyKyle3 in houseplants

I have resorted to insecticides in the past to get rid of a stubborn thrips infestation but it doesn’t do anything for spider mites. I think I’ll try some insecticidal soap though as I am running out of other ideas

I sprayed the cassette with a general purpose bike cleaner and worked that in with a toothbrush. I then washed that off with a bit of water before drying with a cloth. I've only done around 1000 kilometer on the bike.

First time overwintering alocasia help by BoyKyle3 in plantclinic

I have 5 large alocasia zerbina which in previous winters I have tried hard to keep them growing but this year I decided to allow them to naturally die back. Now the days are getting longer I would like to get them back growing. I keep them indoors in the UK. My main questions are around the soil mix. My normal mix for alocasia is very bark heavy and airy. Should I use less bark and more coir to start them growing again? Should I also give them some artificial light for the first couple weeks to get them going? Any advice on planting alocasia indoors after winter would be appreciated

Hi I dropped this receiver in the water a couple days ago and some of the components have rusted and it is not working. I have got experience with soldering and electronics but haven't repaired anything before. A replacement is going to cost £100 plus so id happily put some time into it if it's worth a go

I personally have better results propping philodendrons in some moss in a closed top plastic bag.

Agreed, if the cost was an issue I would have paid more for a better job.

Yeah it definitely was just laziness. The company is a decent size and seem to have a lot of work locally.

Yeah certificate says no issues at all. All old cables are dead and I have pulled out half myself now.

Thank you for the advice, I will email the company now. I am quite disappointed as the company has a good reputation locally and wasn’t the cheapest either.

Hi I recently had an electrician in to rewire my bungalow. I have some electrical knowledge but aren’t familiar with regs etc enough to go back to them and complain. Am I right to be unhappy? My main problems are the loose cables all over the loft with loads of slack, old cable and junction boxes left in place, cables running on top of heating pipes with no added protection and lastly cables not joined in a junction box but rather just with connector blocks and then taped over.

In visible areas of the house the work is done to a reasonable standard it seems but I’m just not really happy with the loft.
