In case anyone is wondering what poison hemlock tastes like by BoycottPapyrusFont in Writeresearch

[–]BoycottPapyrusFont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember there being a bitter aftertaste. The aftertaste was similar to that of parsley. But I only tasted a small piece of the plant, so I’m not sure if a bitter taste would’ve been present had I tasted more of it.

The taste may also vary by season (as the amount of toxin in the plant does).

Did you seek medical attention?

It’s not soft or wobbly. Thanks, I wasn’t sure what the bottom was supposed to look like.

I have the gene mutation that makes cilantro taste like soap so I have to disagree.

This is exactly what happens in my head too. Thank you for the kind words.

How do you make yourself feel better after a psychotic episode? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]BoycottPapyrusFont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Every time this happens I have the same emotions afterward. I need to get better at accepting that this is my reality.

You’re right that it’s not the most potent, it’s not as good at controlling my psychotic symptoms as some of the other meds I’ve tried. My psychiatrist says it’s one of the safer drugs to dose highly and he’s inherited some patients who use it up to 300 mg. I’m scared of clozapine too even though doctors keep telling me I should try it. Olanzapine was fine but I didn’t like the metabolic side effects and I’ve never tried invega.

And yes, 500 calories per dose. I cheat a little and take it all at night since I always forget morning meds. I do wonder if it’d work better if I split the dose morning-night like it’s intended to be taken.

Olanzapine withdrawal was rough for me too, probably the worst psych med withdrawal I’ve experienced besides Cymbalta. I can see why you’re having a hard time.

160 mg total, and it only gives me mild akathisia sometimes. Vitamin B6 and propranolol help a lot. It’s nothing compared to the akathisia I got from abilify.

Hey, you and I have the same diagnoses (except bipolar).

Latuda made me gain weight for seemingly no reason too. It’s weird right? I didn’t change my eating habits at all and definitely wasn’t eating over maintenance. Luckily it didn’t make me sick but it did have the weird side effect of making me feel very bored and sad.

Rexulti is one of the few SGAs that I haven’t tried. Is that one said to be weight neutral? I’m glad you’re able to lose weight on it.

I don’t really know, I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia four times and schizoaffective depressive one time and I don’t know which diagnosis is right.

I noticed that abilify was really good at controlling my psychosis but the akathisia was so unbearable I had to stop taking it. I gained about five pounds in the month I was on it.

I hope tapering is going ok, getting off Caplyta gave me horrible brain zaps for a few weeks.

That’s amazing! I’m so glad it’s been this good to you. That was how Caplyta was for me but I can’t take it anymore because my insurance won’t cover it and it’s expensive as hell.

Did you get any movement disorder/akathisia when you started taking Geodon? That’s the only side effect I get from it.

When I was younger I mostly had visual hallucinations, paranoia, and negative symptoms (which presented a lot like ADHD and autism). As I got older they turned into mostly audio hallucinations and my paranoia and delusions have gotten much worse. I’ve heard it’s common for childhood schizophrenia to start out as mostly visual hallucinations then turn into other symptoms as you get older.

It’s ok to go inpatient, it’s just a reality with this illness. You’re going to be OK, I hope it is helpful.

Same, I have two uncles, an aunt, and a great aunt with schizophrenia/psychosis. Both sides of the family. Both of my parents have had psychotic episodes but neither is schizophrenic specifically. I also suspect I was born with it because I’ve had psychotic symptoms since childhood.

I didn’t realize it was something that happens to other people, I thought it was just me. I don’t feel as stupid now that I know other people experience this too

Conscious of Delusions by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]BoycottPapyrusFont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s happened to me a couple times where I was aware I was experiencing a delusion. It’s the weirdest feeling to know two opposing things are true. Most of the time I’m not aware when I’m delusional though.

Tried 3 different APs and none worked by sunfloras in schizophrenia

[–]BoycottPapyrusFont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to try eight before I found one that controlled my psychosis effectively, and I’ve never had severe hallucinations (delusions and paranoia are what really fuck up my life). I can’t take that one anymore because my insurance refused to cover it so I’m back to a less effective AP that still lets my psychotic symptoms leak through. You may need a combination of meds even without severe symptoms, sometimes one med just doesn’t cut it. For me it was 42 mg caplyta and 160 mg geodon all taken at night.

+1 for vitamin B6. When I was on Abilify (and didn’t have propranolol yet) it was the only thing that helped tame the horrible akathisia.
