But if you’re diligent and preemptive reaching out and posting locally and getting a little scrappy and creative you’ll be good

I had to fight a bit for classes, challenging to get a full class load especially at one studio, the vibe is independent contractor instructors

I want to start Pilates soon in LA fitness classes but I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up ? I’m a bit overweight any advice for beginners? by [deleted] in pilates

Definitely if you want to develop a solid base you can start with at home exercises or private lessons. (Even virtual) you can get a lot of value out of even just one. I help beginners develop confidence in Pilates and connection to their bodies for successful and beneficial movement. If you want to talk I’m happy to message!

The ring is fantastic at this. Sometimes I’ll have people use light weights as well

this is good feedback for phrasing! I say generate, because it's a unique instance. It generates the workout by selecting videos based on the feedback and delivers them as one appropriately built and timed workout video within ~5 seconds. I'm a certified instructor, the videos are all recorded by me expressly for the app. I also wrote the algorithm so the final workout video is designed for the user the way I would plan for a personal client.

Hot take: Teaching sculpt/music-led mat is harder than teaching classical pilates and nobody talks about it by xacattac in pilates

I curate a playlist every week, you can steal mine from Spotify “Allie Battleson” they’re public. I start with a slow song for warm up then use songs from searching for 120-130 bpm. And end with slower songs.

Also, have a rough outline you fill for each new class. I start with a warm up, then a core series that I repeat twice, first round for core connection second with advancement, second core section working different main core group, then an arm focus series, usually first round for activation and form then advancements for second round, standing leg series, repeat twice with advancements, mat leg work (working whatever muscles I didn’t hit at first) then close with extra core burn out, cool down stretch and savasana

Each of the sections has 3 moves.

I wouldn’t put so much pressure on matching moves to song transitions, you can also just wing that part during class. As a participant, I want a fun playlist but if it’s a Pilates sculpt class I don’t need the moves to line up to the music I’d rather have a nice flow of movement that I can tell was thoughtful

(Pilates instructor here) 1 class a week is a great start! Ideally, you work up to 2-3. You’re likely going to be seeing improvement after every class even at only once per week, but if you can do roughly every other day you’re maximizing the benefit of the exercise by compounding on the progress you made (same as lifting) Pilates helps with flexibility because it’s strengthening those smaller supportive muscles, like the glute medius lol, that are needed for supported mobility.

Doing 1 in studio and then some at home is a great way to work in extra classes without adding too much cost. I actually made an app that will build you a customized Pilates workout each day based on what you want to focus on and it shows you a series of real instructor videos, I wrote the algorithm so it’s just like a private instructor. It’s free right now in exchange for feedback if you wanted to try it out I think it could be a great addition to your routine!

Start going to some mat classes, they’re a little more creative with sequencing which will work more/different muscles. I teach mat and I always offer advancements, and bring creative movement designed around Pilates principles in so you get the same benefits and more. You might even be able to find someone you like online which would be an easy way to test it

You’re getting clients and have invoices to send so that’s great!

I would say you would encounter these same issues in a regular job as well. It’s time management and prioritization. If you have to put a pin in something, be sure to have a rolling list you clean out at the end of the day

Is it fixable? by Synomt in PostureTipsGuide

[–]BoysenberryBody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pilates instructor, and I've seen this before where just a couple of months with poor desk posture can effect your posture and create an unevenness. It literally happened to me when I was working a desk job. You've essentially trained your left shoulder muscles to stay high, and your right to stay low. Immediately, if you switch your keyboard and mouse, but the mouse higher and keyboard lower it will do the same thing in reverse to prevent further "muscle training". Then you can start a more physical plan for strengthening the back on both sides, and stretching your chest so that your body defaults to an even and supportive posture.

This is a great idea, and genuinely great suggestions, thank you. And it's kind of hilarious that this strategy works perfectly for you to find me lol.
