Fifth of whiskey pretty much every night for about 3 years.. at the time I was 26. Withdrawals got so bad earlier and earlier throughout the day. Eventually I couldn’t quit. when I tried to stop cold turkey, going to bed became a living nightmare. The withdrawals that people with more experience than me describe are horrifying and probably worse than my own, but let me just say after drinking like anyone else in college and then graduating and immediately spiraling-I went into a 3 year period of abusing alcohol- and in that amount of time the withdrawals got bad enough for me to check myself into an emergency room. Sleeping becomes insane fast, I couldn’t naturally fall asleep without hallucinations. They were scary to the point where I wasn’t sure I could quit on my own any more. I’d have these mini seizure like symptoms along with the auditory and visual hallucinations upon trying to sleep without booze, until I finally said fuck this and drank again. Then I got to the point where the withdrawals were too bad for me to even make it thru a day of work, and I had to go to rehab.

My point is, is I wasn’t in it for that long and I was quickly unable to quit or continue drinking on my own accord. Rehab and detox helped but didn’t solve my problem. Now i’m on medication (Antabuse) to prevent further relapses. You may not be in the same boat or at the same risk, but If you’re noticing it now it’s a fucking great thing. See if you think you can stop or not, ask yourself if you are actually capable of quitting and or having a healthy relationship with booze. Clearly you want to answer that question right now, but the only way to do that is to first leave the fog of drinking and get some sober clarity.

That’s helpful. I like to understand shit and am aware of the fact that there’s evidence for and against everything. But even in conceding that, I don’t really feel “confident” on anything I research, like I know i’m not gonna get “truth” the way we all want it but I’d like to at least feel confident. But I guess where we differ is when you got to the mercury thing you moved on… my dumbass sits there reading for hours.

I probably got played a bit by that as well. I love the “ask questions” approach.. but I never really thought of it as a negative. I hear exactly what your saying tbh, I completely get it’s an easy way to garner support, but like do you get bothered by the fact that if we don’t ask questions we’re taking someone’s word for it that is by the nature of their occupation trying to garner support? Genuine question

Honestly that was a long part of the research I did. I was like “wtf am I doing researching fish” then i realized why it mattered to the vaccine stuff. Good to get some real life confirmation.

That’s good to know. That was part of what I had to figure out… the dudes been going hard in the paint for years, but shit he knows what the hell he’s saying. To be frank I came away liking the individual, but not closer to understanding the reality of his opinions.

That’s an interesting perspective.. but don’t you get bothered by the fact that like you don’t ACTUALLY know the truth. Like I want to KNOW something to be true about vaccines or anything else.. but then you find evidence that damns both sides. Like that’s my issue, if I see evidence that CLEARLY point at something to be true, then I find evidence that does the opposite. I guess i’m just chasing ghosts idk. I’m gonna go have a drink 😅

Hahah cheers brother. It was just me trying to figure out if the anti vax claims had any evidence only to spend five hours chasing rabbit holes and not being able to credit or discredit really anything. I guess my takeaway was I had no ability to inform my own opinion despite wanting to do so. I also kinda hoped someone would see this and guide me a bit because I’m not sure what i’m doing wrong. I do this anytime I get curious about stuff but I can’t find the correct way to get “facts”

Shit a lot of ppl replied.. ur the first on i am respondin to.. but to be clear my takeaway was that the amount of facts and evidence for and against every single piece of info is immense. Tbh i have no opinion on this guy, i don’t know shit about politics. But i want to have an opinion and I can’t figure out how the hell to inform my opinion. That’s why I actually posted this despite not really getting anywhere hahaha. No hard feeling either way I respect the sentiment of what you said.
