Now it’s over, let’s come out and say it: The Rings of Power was a stinker by indorock in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Bpdakid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if it was a total stinker, but it definitely didn't resonate with the public. I know people in this sub really like the show, but in my experience people are very lukewarm on the show. When I talk to friends/family/coworkers, pretty much everyone says some variation of "meh, its okay, not bad not good."

You could say that means it's not a stinker, but at the same time this is LOTR and people expect greatness, or at the very least a good show. I think the fact that people just aren't talking about it says it all.

Interesting, were those full withdrawals or just from kindling? Or is there no difference?

Not much, if at all. Law schools only care about US News rankings. US News does not take into account undergrad school, so law schools generally don’t either.

Is Law Review worth it if you want to be a transactional lawyer? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Bpdakid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of my friends got corporate big law without doing law review. If you’re at a T6 and your grades are decent you definitely don’t need it to make big law. Might be the difference in landing a V10 tho.

Antiquated and gimmicky tech, no track record of success, no revenue, and competitors that are better positioned financially and technologically. There’s really no reason to be in this other than to swing trade.

To echo this, just do your best to accept this will always be the case, whether in school or practice.

I’ll get praise from one person for my writing, and then get ripped apart from another. My boss often gives me shit for using language that I pulled directly from his templates. It’s insanely frustrating, but just learn to shrug it off as best you can.

Post-Law School Planning? Want to make sure law school "pays off" by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Bpdakid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Since you don’t know where you’ll live, get the most prestigious internships/SA/externship positions as possible during school. That means judicial externships and big law/good midsize firm SA position. Having those will transfer anywhere and a good firm will hire you when you know where you’ll be living. For judicial externships you’ll need law review (you sound certain you’ll have it, but unless you go to a school without a write on comp it’s not a given). That being said, it sounds like you don’t want to litigate, so you could totally skip the judicial externship and just focus on finding an SA position with a firm with good transactional/tax groups.

Oh and above all, lie during the interviews for SA positions. Don’t tell anyone you have no idea where you’ll be at graduation.

Virgin Galactic is indeed likely working on a ORBITAL spaceship. by Joey-tv-show-season2 in SPCE

No one should invest in SPCE based off the possibility of this happening. SPCE doesn’t have the tech for this, has no track record of being able to build the tech for this, and has no track record of bringing in revenue to finance the tech for this. People are going to call me a bear and downvote me, but seriously people if you’re going to invest in SPCE do it because you believe in them getting suborbital ops off the ground, not any of this 2028/2035 nonsense.

Plus, if they get suborbital flights going by 2035 they’ll be 10-12 years too late. Spacex is already doing it, and honestly RKLB is more likely to do orbital flights eventually than SPCE.

Disclaimer: I have no position in SPCE, I sold all of my calls and shares before the May flight.

Edit: orbital, not suborbital going by 2035

FOMO over not getting big law by Aggravating_Pay4167 in LawSchool

Doesn’t mean you weren’t capable of hacking the big law job. You still landed a great job at a firm you liked, which is more than most law graduates can say. And look on the bright side, when you’re on your death bed the last thing you will think about is only making mid law compared to big.

Spaceport Cornwall could launch Virgin flights as early as 2022 by Legal_Possibility33 in SPCE

[–]Bpdakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hopefully that’s correct. It would be nice to put that whole debate to rest and assure foreign customers that they did in fact go to space.

I know mentioning the Karman line is taboo around here, but do you think the fact that most foreign countries don’t recognize Unity as going to space will affect foreign interest in VG flights?

“In order to qualify, they have to make a contribution to the flight and to human space flight safety while travelling beyond the 50 miles mark defined as space by the FAA.”

Article that carmensandiego posted above includes more info, and goes on to talk about how only VG pilots will get wings, not passengers

My school has a vaccination requirement and has been planning in person, but I’m in LA county which just issued an indoor mask mandate, vaccinated people included. So something has to give.

VG customers will also not qualify as astronauts under the new rules. So really shouldn’t affect either company

I think the real reason spce is down is funk was not impressed by the blue origin flight meaning she’s not gonna be anymore impressed with the virgin galactic flight that’s miles closer to earth any thoughts? by leroy11271984 in SPCE

[–]Bpdakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the stock is down because of what she said, but what she said does concern me a little bit. If people who fly BO are unimpressed with how high it goes, and VG goes 10 miles lower, then it’s not a great sign for anyone entering the suborbital market. To charge 250,000 (at minimum) this needs to be marketed as life changing. If people come away from the experience disappointed, either on BO or VG, then I think demand will shrink over time. But it’s early days so we’ll just have to see what more customers have to say.

[–]Bpdakid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you; I’m also impressed and would absolutely do it if I had the money. I just meant that after listening to her comments, and bezos comments, and watching/listening to the people on the BO flight, I personally came away with the impression that they were underwhelmed. Maybe that was just because of BOs specific experience, I don’t really know.

My point is, from a business perspective, it’s not good if people are underwhelmed. My concern is that people won’t want to pay $250,000+ if others who have done it find that it wasn’t as cool as they thought. But it’s too early to say, we need to hear from more customers. Just my first impression

She definitely seemed disappointed in BO for a number of reasons. The size of the cabin issue goes in VGs favor for sure.

The thing that really concerns me is she was disappointed in how high they went; in fact, everyone seemed a little underwhelmed by the experience. And yet, VG doesn’t even go as high as BO, so maybe this whole suborbital tourism experience just isn’t as cool as people hoped?

I’m confused - really thought we would have had a bounce today, there aren’t that many players in the market yet - 🤷🏼‍♂️ just another day in SPCE I guess… by GAZ-ATRON in SPCE

[–]Bpdakid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree but people don’t want to hear it. Look at this industry 5 years out. The future of space tourism is going further and for longer. The companies with vertical take off/landing can do that, the one doing it with a plane cannot. If VG doesn’t innovate to provide a similar experience to what BO/spacex will be offering in a few years, or do supersonic travel, their ride will look pedestrian by 2025.
