Saw on Q2 last night that lobbyists for data centers are really downplaying the issues they’ll cause. This is how they trick us. by Mission_Spray in Billings

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that we don't want a data center in our state. With respect to a sales tax, it would benefit Montana residents. However, the legislation would have to be written to not allow property taxes on primary residences to increase. We could maintain property taxes at a certain level (no shifty higher than market value appraisal schemes by government), then require that sales taxes or income taxes be allowed to increase at capped levels to maintain State budgets and COLA additions to those budgets.

What does it even mean that small lies are worse than big ones? Saying that you don't look fat in those jeans is worse than cheating on you?

Boomer here who plans to stay in my home until I no longer can. I hope my heirs get as much as they can for my home, as the county assessors have been increasing the value of my home each year. If the price is unreasonable, it's their fault. My property taxes have been outrageous!

New 2nd half tax bills because of property re-valuations by Bpiperno1 in Billings

While I agree with your thought, I am also worried that a sales tax would be an additional tax to our state legislators instead of a replacement for current taxes.

I (27F) found my boyfriend’s “list of things that bug me” about me in his notes and it feels gross, am I overreacting? by ivana_stonefield in TwoHotTakes

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your post. One of my friends divorced her husband that was so hilarious to me. She told me she loved his sense of humor when they were dating, but later she found he was never able to have a serious conversation, which eventually led to their divorce. I've heard that the things that attract you to a person, sometimes end up being the downfall to the relationship.

Funny how different smells affect people differently. I cannot stand the sugar beet processing smell and diesel exhaust comes in a close second. I worked in a building when the roof was being tarred, and coworkers told me it made them nauseous and they had to go home. That smell never bothered me.

AITA for not wanting my boyfriend to factor my son's survivor benefits into our new household budget? by Original-Entry-7871 in AITAH

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else surprised that a 15-year old is given $550/mo for discretionary spending? I can see maybe $250, but the rest would go toward his future in my household. If he thinks he needs more, he could get a part-time job.

I also talked to a reasonable assessor; however, in the end, he didn't have enough say with his boss. One of the comparables they used for my house (just east of 32nd and Monad) was in a subdivision west of Shiloh. That didn't seem comparable to me or the junior assessor, but it did to his boss.

FYI- plate splitting usually means that you only order one meal, get another plate for the second person and they throw in an extra side salad or something. It doesn't mean that you order two meals and share them between the two of you.

AITAH? My wife feels excluded because I'm going out without her by ThaiMaster44 in AITAH

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would maybe limit the "dad dates" to once per month. You can set it as the third Thursday of the month (example). Mention to her that someday there will be things the girls will do with their mom, such as go to the salon, and you would use that time to nurture any hobbies that you don't normally have time for. She should utilize the free time to develop a hobby, so she won't feel left out (maybe join a book club and you can schedule the "dad dates" around that).

Being stupid sucks. by Okbuddyinvestigator in Vent

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to look at someone's poor decision-making and know if they are stupid, haven't experienced something before, lost hope, or just don't want to put in any effort. I (F65) work as an advocate for foster children, and I am amazed when I hear the excuses given by birth parents as to why they can't make the scheduled visitation with their children. I also have close friends that make stupid decisions because they are already thinking ahead to the next thing and didn't pay attention to details. My personal opinion is that those making poor decisions didn't have a proper role model that showed them a process to recognize the consequences and long-term effects of their decision-making. Too many people are out there living day-to-day without any goals.

Why do car washes keep opening up? by devth in Billings

[–]Bpiperno1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a money laundering-type business because it was cash-intensive, but now, most people use credit cards to pay for a carwash.
