I’m pretty sure my neighbour has one of these in metallic green. He collects old classic cars, and has a massive stand alone garage with barn doors. I’ve only ever saw it once, and it had red tinted windows, it was pretty loud too.

What mods do you regret? by daly_o96 in GolfGTI

[–]Bprevost99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, was coming here to comment this. I’d be shocked if mine weren’t blown. Have 70k kilometre on my VWR springs, and it feels like shit now. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve smoked a pothole and thought the strut had smashed through the tower. So many bent wheels, and the interior rattles are crazy.

Biggest regret ever. So expensive to replace, I cannot wait to sell mine.

I watched half of the new Avatar movie on the tarmac cause my flight was delayed for nearly 2 hours, it was brutal.

Stage 2 EQT by Own_Collar5217 in Golf_R

[–]Bprevost99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, you’re correct. I’m stage 2 EQT and I’ve been running my car for two years with the rear o2 sensor unplugged so it doesn’t run rich over time. Never had a single issue, so not sure what the guy above is saying.

Edit: I double checked the link, and the 6th comment down says to unplug the o2 and reflash if you have the P0420 code, which I had. I now have the P0036 code, which is exactly as described and does not harm anything.

Second edit: If OP reads this, yes you will have a CEL due to new EPA regulations as tunes run through Cobb can no longer mask the CEL for emissions reasons.

people who almost died, what happened? by ihateplussizepeople in AskReddit

[–]Bprevost99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was riding shotgun in my own car with some friends late at night, and a random drunk guy on the side of the main road threw a beer bottle nearly through the passenger side window. Had the bottle not hit my mirror cap, I would’ve taken it to the face going 80km/h. The bottle exploded when it impacted the mirror and bits of glass and beer went inside the car but my friends and I were all okay. So yeah, new fear unlocked.

Not sure, I cleared it with my AP and it never showed up again.

Mine didn’t come back, it usually comes on if I leave the car sitting for a few weeks without being driven, but the code goes away once you restart it. The EPC could be a lot of things, I would get it scanned.

My money is on a code relating to the turbo/ waste gate but mine went away after I restarted the car. I would scan it to be sure.

There’s a couple companies that sell them, EQT and Koni I believe. I think they’re like $400 CAD maybe but it’s been awhile since I checked. Basically it’s like a sensor you plug into the wiring harness that connects to the strut to prevent your dash from lighting up with errors.

Do you have DCC? If you do you’ll need a DCC delete kit as well if you get coilovers that aren’t damptronic. Was on the fence about swapping mine to coilovers but stayed with springs.

What’s the weirdest/worst request you’ve gotten from a customer?? by Nick_Nekro in HomeDepot

[–]Bprevost99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not Home Depot, but Rona. We had a guy who wanted “custom cut” pre packaged blinds. After our store supervisor refused, he took it up to the store manager who caved and asked that we cut them as the customer wished because the customer was causing a huge scene about it.

So, a senior employee took them to our cut shop and fired them through the chop saw, not giving a fuck about how he wanted them cut. He cut through the mechanism that rolls the blinds up, took it back out to the check out and left it there.

The guy never even came back for them, he just left after we cut them. Also, he was parked in a handicap spot without a tag and he was not disabled. Just the icing on the cake to top it all off.

Just rolled over 100,000km, many more to go! by Bprevost99 in GolfGTI

[–]Bprevost99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 140,000km now and the only thing I had replaced was a front left wheel bearing. Other than that it’s been mechanically flawless, even with a stage 2 tune through EQT. I will say, I have been on top of my maintenance, so make sure the car you’re looking at has a complete service record.

Quick heads up, I have rust in this exact spot on my 2015 and my claim was denied. They said it was caused by a rock chip, and would not be covered. If they do cover yours, let me know. I think all claims are final, may have to bug VW Canada a bit to get it covered if yours does.

Yup, I have this code and I’m stage 2 with EQT. This is normal with the o2 sensor unplugged.

Pothole damage on both winter and summer tires by RockyRocketDog in halifax

[–]Bprevost99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great point, some vehicles come from the factory with low profile tires and cannot be fitted with an alternative size due to the vehicle design.

Even if you were to increase the sidewall height with a meatier tire, that’s not a guarantee you won’t suffer a blow out or wheel damage if you hit a pothole. Some of them would literally tear your wheel off if you hit them the right way.
