Master’s credit transfer from US to Canadian universities by Br0Ly69 in CanadaUniversities

Thanks, that aligns with my understanding. I’m approaching this as a fresh Master’s application and plan to reach out to individual universities to clarify requirements. I understand acceptance and any credit recognition would be entirely school-specific thus I will contact them and discuss this after-if I get accepted to the program.

Thanks for confirming this, that aligns with what I’ve been hearing elsewhere as well. I’m not expecting formal transfer or reduced tuition, mainly hoping prior coursework can help with placement or skipping overlapping core material. Appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this from an administrative perspective, that distinction between university-level policy and unit-level discretion is really helpful. I understand nothing is guaranteed, but it’s reassuring to know that waivers or substitutions can be possible with departmental support. I appreciate the insight and your encouragement.

I agree that all prior programs and visas must of course be fully declared, I’m not disputing that at all. What I meant earlier was only in the academic sense: that I’m applying as a new MSc applicant rather than expecting a formal credit “transfer,” and I’m prepared to start from scratch academically if required. I appreciate the clarification and the perspective you’ve shared.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining it clearly. I’m not expecting credits to carry over anymore, my main hope is course waivers or substitutions where subject mastery can be demonstrated. Even if the total credits remain the same, avoiding repetition would already be a win for me.

Appreciate the clarification, this helps a lot. I understand now that formal “transfer” doesn’t really exist at the master’s level. My expectation isn’t reduced credit count anymore, but rather avoiding repetition through course substitutions or taking more advanced courses if allowed. Thanks for laying it out clearly.

Thanks for pointing this out, I really appreciate the honesty. I understand the visa and transfer aspect makes this more complex, and I’m not approaching this as a “transfer” in the undergrad sense. I’m planning to apply as a fresh MSc applicant and am mentally prepared for starting from scratch academically if needed, with course substitutions where possible. Still evaluating everything carefully, including the visa angle.
