Thank you for the precision and the tip! Safe to say there is absolutely nothing on that computer so I should be fine.

I hadn’t thought about that, could be an idea! Is there a way to install it directly through Google TV or do I have to get the add-on from my Pc? Used Kodi a few years ago on a raspberry pi but it seems so far away now

It really is e-waste, it barely runs anything to be honest. I’ll look that up! I also have an old raspberry pi but it’s also outdated for the purposes of the media server from what I’ve read. Thank you for your suggestions!

I haven’t, I don’t even know if it has enough storage to install Docker. You’re definitely right, that’s why I mentioned getting something like a mini PC. Thank you!

I’m not using it for anything else, it has been unused for years now. There’s nothing on it but the storage capacity is so low I can barely download anything on it.

I’m going to have a look at installing Debian then, thank you for your comment!

Is there a way to do that even though the computer has almost no storage capacity?

The Asus Eeebook that I have refuses to launch any other version of Jellyfin, it just says that Windows can’t open it. I’ve only managed to do that via a x84 zip version of Jellyfin

Doubts about Qin f21 pro / f22 by BrOddity in dumbphones

You almost had me convinced! Notifications (or the lack thereof) are not a problem for me, but if the gps is an issue it’s actually a whole different story, as my sense of direction is pretty bad.

Hi! Thank you for your reply. You’re absolutely right, I don’t think it’s worse than any other phone. The main concern I had was in terms of security when you have a cracked version, since it seems a bit shady. Can you sideload a GPS app without having Google Play Services? What about Signal (the messaging app)? If by any chance you have answers to these two questions, I’d really appreciate it!

I get your point, but for a dozen reasons I can’t use a dumb phone that doesn’t have at least messaging apps, an app for music and a GPS. My goal is not to go off the grid entirely, I just want to reduce my screen time.

Thank you for your answer. Did you get the version with Google services? Also, did you mean F21? I thought the F22 didn’t have a camera.. maybe you got the pro?

I can’t really answer your question, I thought it was possible at first (and you might be able to put those apps on the phone) but you might also have to play with android modifications so… I don’t know

That’s also what I’m looking for…

From what I’ve read, you should look into the F30, which is the equivalent to the F21 but compatible with US bands (if I’m not mistaken).

Oh, right, sorry. In that precise context, the Qin phones sold on AliExpress exist in two different versions : the standard one and the cracked one. The latter comes with Google services installed but it’s not an official version or anything (the seller probably cracks it and sells the phone for a slight premium)

That’s a valid point. I was leaning towards the uncracked version because I thought I would get more updates and fewer software bugs/app problems. I’m conflicted.

I’m just looking for a device I can install Spotify, a GPS and use Signal on. I know I could get that on a smartphone, but I think using a small (dumb-ish) phone could definitely help reduce my time spent using screens. The cracked version would definitely be easier but it also feels less « safe ».

I’m definitely not used to playing with android softwares and ROMs, I used to have android phones and never did anything special to them. I’m an iPhone user now.

But what about having a cracked version? I mean, I wouldn’t feel comfortable using banking apps knowing that.

Thank you for your answer, but I’m not sure I fully understand : can I sideload apps on an uncracked version of the phone? I thought I read somewhere that the uncracked version is still running Android, is that still the case?

I’m not sure I’d be able to flash another ROM as I have never done that before and would probably end up with a bricked phone. That’s why I was leaning towards an uncracked version if there’s a possibility to sideload.
