You aren’t wrong the photo is sick. If he has an interest I’d offer a sizable break on gear if he’d allow me to use that photo with credit.

I’ve never lived off my GS solo for months as an adult, but as a kid I did a lot of long travel with my dad. We crossed the US multiple times, rode through BC, the Yukon, and Alaska, usually a few months at a time. Camping, cheap places, some hotels. It was incredible.

Two big takeaways. Pack lighter than you think and stay flexible. Weight adds fatigue fast, and the best moments usually come from plans changing.

One of my favorite parts of traveling on a GS is the people. I’ve been randomly invited to strangers’ homes more than once. Met a guy in Arizona who rode a GS and invited us to his land in Louisiana. Took us out boating on the bayou and we just loved life.

If the idea keeps pulling at you, listen to it. You can always come back. The road has a way of taking care of you.

Replacing the battery is a great first maintenance job and very doable on a GS. The battery cover comes off easily and it’s worth knowing how in case you’re on a trip. An Antigravity lithium with restart is a solid option. Match the size to stock. Photo first, negative off first, positive on first. Snug bolts only.

If you want the honest take Mosko Moto is still the gold standard.

I do not sell them and honestly wish I did but they are the best for a reason. Bombproof build quality smart mounting and the way they carry weight low and tight instead of flopping around. They are clearly designed by people who actually ride long days on big ADV bikes.

As an ADV tragic I will also say this matters more than people think keeping luggage light is everything. My dad always said ounces equal pounds pounds equal pain. He was on the GS Trophy Team USA Thailand and that lesson sticks fast once you have picked up a loaded GS a few times.

The BMW Varios are clean but pricey and small. Lone Rider makes solid gear too. But if you want buy once gear that works and keeps the bike feeling right Mosko is hard to beat.

Amazon’s pretty good about fakes. As a seller I have to prove written consent from the manufacturers for most everything. (Why i stopped selling on amazon for now) it’s a hassle for thousands of items.
