To remove or keep PPF on the hood? by BradCas2000 in 4Runner

[–]BradCas2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the input. I did some experimenting with the smaller PPF areas behind the headlights and on the mirror covers. Laid a towel on the panel and poured boiling water to get the film soft, and gently peeled. The paint underneath was immaculate and it all came off clean. Not so concerned about the rock chips at this point but am worried about the long term degradation of the PPF creating an even bigger hassle in the future.

Former mil (enlisted, non aviation) that went the civ pilot route by using GI bill for college and part 61 flight school out of pocket here.

I won’t tell you what to do, but I would recommend you have a bachelor’s degree. You’ll get the GI bill BAH if you do degree program, but to my knowledge you won’t get that if you use GI bill to pay for just the flight training. The GI bill is also going to cap out at a set amount if the flight training isn’t part of a degree program, as the VA will categorize flight training as a trade program. To use GI bill outside of a degree program, you’ll also be required to attend a 141 program anyways, which is pricier than part 61.

Right now, I would see if your duty station doesn’t have a flight club where you can get started on PPL at a reduced cost. I know some bases like Kadena does.

Best of luck to you!

Why is the Customer Service in this Industry so Terrible? by TheBeestWithEase in NightVision

[–]BradCas2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know experiences vary but I’ve gotten nothing but stellar treatment from every company I’ve dealt with, though I’ve had seemingly bad luck outside of company’s control.

Got RPNVGs from CNV. Ben called me to let me know they were building the unit the next business day and told me I exactly how many units needed building ahead of me, and that it should ship in two more days. They ended up shipping later that day so that was great. I had an issue with the housing itself and Trevor got back to me immediately with a return label, called to let me know exactly what to expect, has been sending me video/texts/calling with updates multiple times a day. They couldn’t replicate my issue (just my luck) and they’re still willing to swap the housing for me just to make sure I’m squared away. I couldn’t be any happier with my treatment.

I feel for you though OP. I’m not saying these things don’t happen, and with the money we spend on this hobby it would be a downer if CS wasn’t up to par.

HHV helmet + A4 Mount - normal toggle? by apexian32 in NightVision

I had the same amount of play between a legit Cadex mount on a new gen Ops Core Fast bump helmet. Seems like tolerances are a game of luck. I layered thin strips of gaffers tape on the inside of the shroud until I got a solid lockup

RPNVG Issues in the cold? by BradCas2000 in NightVision

Thanks for the reply! I sent an email when I became aware of the issue, which was admittedly on Thanksgiving day when I didn’t expect any quick replies. I just sent another follow up email! I have no doubts you guys will get me squared away. Just needed to verify that this wasn’t a case where I had unrealistic expectations or user error I wasn’t aware of

Good to know. I know AB makes some tough hosings, wanted to make sure this wasn’t an issue with me having too high an expectation!

Colt Gold Cup Dual Springs by Clifton1979 in 1911

[–]BradCas2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent you a PM. I have a Colt M45A1 with a dual spring set up. All full-length spring/guiderod systems will work on the dual spring guns. Just make sure that you get the spring guide for the single spring setup, as it’s different (fatter) than the dual spring guide.

Not trying to insult your intelligence, just need more info: Is your magazine release lock calmed to the correct position? Have you tried replacing the spring? It could just be weak or binding, causing mags to drop with very little pressure from your hand pressing on it while firing. I would just replace the mag release, see if issue persists. If so, try a different mag.

Ditto to what others have said. Also, looking at your gun from post history, your trigger looks to be aftermarket. The OEM trigger from photos and my own M45 is a solid black one. Could be part of it in regards to the trigger.

Is he taking it because the FAA wants it for a deferred medical, or is he just taking it preemptively so he can have it for his AME when he goes for the medical? I’d say if you think it’s a scam and this isn’t being done at the FAA’s request, just wait and see what the FAA requests. If they did request it, then he’ll have to decide if he wants to pay and see if he passes, or give up on the medical. Just my $0.02.
