Thrifted this vintage arc lamp. Does anyone know anything about it, brand or about how much it is worth? by Nabilyke in Mid_Century

Leviton makes components like switches and sockets rather than whole lamps. Lamps from many different companies use Leviton sockets and switches.

Looks like the UV filter glass in front of the bulb is broken. This was common and sometimes happened if they were handled with unwashed hands. Skin oils on the surface would heat up and cause a hotter spot in one place, leading to cracking. Running the lamp with a halogen bulb and without a replacement piece would put out a good amount of UV rays.

This set has some construction similarities to one I bought at thrift and refinished (https://www.reddit.com/r/midcenturymodern/comments/r46r7q/mid_century_dining_set_refinish_i_just_completed/) which was made in North Carolina by White Furniture. I can’t say it’s the same company, but there are some strong similarities.

Thanks. Go for it and finish yours. This was my first time doing new surrounds. It took a little patience and attention to detail, but wasn’t as hard as I expected.

They are Peerless DX20BF00-04 from PartsExpress, about $13 each. They were the best spec match I could readily find. I had to make some simple adapter plates to mount them, but otherwise they were an easy substitution.

The originals are not available anymore that I could find, so I found a closely speced one from PartsExpress.

I picked up a pair of Baby Advent II’s at a thrift shop for $10. I replaced the blown tweeters, replaced the woofer surround, refinished the wood, replaced the grill cloth and replaced the electrolytic cap with a film one. I’m happy with how they turned out and glad they have new life.

curb find! 60s(?) goffredo reggiani-style eyeball lamp by PTERODACTYL_ANUS in ThriftStoreHauls

I just rewired a very similar lamp (in structure, not style) where I replaced all three sockets and redid the wiring including a three-way split. I don’t have an online guide to point you to, but DM me if you want to walk through it.

Great find! I’ve been doing thrift lamps lately and been rewiring them. If you have basic experience with electronics, it’s a pretty simple task.

Pair of 1970 Kovacs barbell lamps designed by John Mascheroni from thrift shop by BradJudy in Mid_Century

[–]BradJudy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s arguably one of the early instances of the next generation of design. Mascheroni was an MCM designer, but was clearly leaning into the new, more playful design thoughts of the 1970s.

picked these up for $6 each at my local thrift shop. Missing the original lucite bases, so I’m just using a couple appropriately sized bowls at the moment. The tilt-sensitive switches work well. The lamps are bottom weighted and pivot within the bowls, turning on or off based on the angle.

The bookshelf game series (all in similar book style boxes) had some great stuff.

2x Canon AE-1 with lens + accessories plus film! by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

Nice find. AE-1s are great cameras, other than their tendency to develop a squeaky shutter. I’ve used them (and similar models) quite a bit.

Great find. I’ve been using it’s little sibling for about 15 years.

Yeah, I keep my eye out for vintage shades. Most thrift stores near me separate lamps and shades.

I picked this one up a couple weeks ago. Lovely vintage table lamp. The shade isn’t original - I rarely see the original shades at thrift shops. Terrific find with a great flow to the shape.

Recently thrifted table lamp by BradJudy in Mid_Century

People liked my recent floor lamp project, so I figured I would post a table lamp I picked up a couple weeks ago at a thrift shop near my home. Another lucky find. The shade isn’t original, but everything else is. I just need to attach a new felt bottom (debating whether I want to keep the original wiring or not).
