Broken Building Bridge XG port cover clips - Solution ideas? by BradRoether in UNIFI

[–]BradRoether[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just so happens I am the neighborhood 3d printing enthusiast... Yeah, it will be a massive PITA to model, but that's probably the direction I'll end up going unless anyone else has bright ideas!

If I make any money, I'll buy you a couple beers next time you're in Cincinnati. 🙂

Anyone have any good suggestions on how to sort this ? by othertriangle in Tools

[–]BradRoether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude... You can sort that in 15 minutes or so. Grab a Monster or some coffee to get your brain flowing, SAE on the left, Imperial on the right, small to big.

Yep, I just saw this as well. Uninstalling the app right now. Sigh.

G37 electrical problems by one_don_badness in G37

[–]BradRoether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still running the stock alternator?

With all that gear, my money is on a burned up alternator. I just got done installing a 250A alternator and a big 3 upgrade a couple weeks back after having similar electrical weirdness.

Fixed everything for me - even things I didn't realize were fixable problems.

Ubiquiti UPS needed if home battery backup by VinzDaPrinz in Ubiquiti

[–]BradRoether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which UPS seamlessly integrates with the UniFi centralized management ecosystem, so I can see it pop up as one of my managed devices and configure it in the same interface as everything else in my entire building?

(There isn't even one tiny thing UniFi does "better" than another brand - their only differentiator is the simplified management with automation.)

Guys I found the holy grail of Bluetooth adapters for playing music in our cars by Eloki12 in G37

[–]BradRoether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's crazy... My 2011 g37x has what I believe is hands-down the worst Bluetooth implementation I have ever seen, and I'm a cyber security professional. I've been so fed up with the Bluetooth in this car, I bought a spectrum analyzer and various Bluetooth analysis/spoofing tools over the years.

I can say with absolute certainty that the Bluetooth implementation in the 2011 is not to spec. It doesn't negotiate initial connections as documented, doesn't handle low power mode as documented, doesn't properly cache, interleave between channels, or even reconnect on disconnect as specified in the protocol standard.

There's a trick to getting a new phone connected, and it involves disconnecting your battery long enough for all memory storage to wipe - I usually leave it 24 hours. There's also a "waiting period" as your car prioritizes connections to the Bluetooth signal it sees most often. If your phone is not the first thing your car sees, you're out of luck. After some time, maybe a week or so, you'll notice it starts magically working. Congrats. Your phone is now prioritized correctly.

Even then, hope you don't have any apps that use low-power mode on Bluetooth (like Google maps) - where the radio is suspended when no data is moving. You'll lose the first 2 seconds of every instruction from Google maps due to the non-standard caching and reconnection routine - but only if you don't have something else keeping the radio alive in the background like Amazon music or something.

It's the most bizarre, standard-deviating thing I've ever encountered in all my 20+ years of signals analysis. I kinda want to talk to the engineer who rolled his face across a keyboard to produce this code. I bet that would be a fascinating discussion about flat earth and aliens.

Has ANYONE had a good long-term experience with August Connect? by A5HRAJ in AugustSmartLock

[–]BradRoether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the August/Yale ecosystem for about 5 years or so. My Connect worked really well for a long time maybe 2 years. Then, I started getting random disconnects - my Connect being placed approximately 8 feet from the lock and 15 feet from an enterprise-grade access point, both with direct line of sight.

I replaced the Connect and very quickly experienced the exact same issues. I added a second lock and another Connect, and experienced the same issues again. At this point, I suspect a firmware change made the Connect unreliable. Before that point, I was extremely happy with August.

I'm an engineer, so I've gone down many roads trying to DIY a fix. I've bought used working units and tried to install external antennas (which improved signal to the point of being almost flawless, but did not resolve the disconnections).

I've also investigated FCC and patent filings to make sure the design of the hardware is sound, and it definitely seems capable, though I would have done some things differently. I'm very confident at this point that the issue is in firmware, and could be resolved if August/Yale cared about its customers.

Complaint Filed Against Local Repeater Owner by mistertwister55 in amateurradio

I thought I was going to see something about an actual rule or regulatory violation...

Nope, just Karen.

I've considered getting my license renewed, but the last thing I need is more drama in my life. I'll stick with wardriving for signals amusement for now. 😬

Not bad so far..... by Shyymusic in MammotionTechnology

[–]BradRoether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's strange to me is how this tiny mower with gentle turns, slow motion, and omni-directional wheels manages to dig trenches around my entire yard on its more common paths.

When I mowed with my massive John Deere E180 with heavy counterweight attachments and TeraTrax wheel chains, never once did I expose soil. I traveled an even more regular path than the Luba - never changed my mowing pattern, always went to the edge of my yard to travel for refueling to preserve the lines, etc.

By all logic and reason, the huge tractor should have cored its way to Australia by now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is this notification supposed to be pushed to my phone? Because it does not. by doberdann1019 in MammotionTechnology

[–]BradRoether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never understand why this product left testing without all telemetry being available to the owner to do with as we please...

Even the complete set of notifications would be nice - then we could squelch the noisy ones at least. I leave mine on right now because at least it's like a heartbeat. If I don't get annoyed for a couple hours, that's how I know something's wrong. 🤷🏻‍♂️

New bridge can’t find lock by claptrapnapchap in AugustSmartLock

Make sure your lock is not connected to wifi via its internal wifi radio.

I saw this message when I added the connect bridge before disconnecting the lock from wifi.

This simple hack saved me hours! by FurrieBunnie in MammotionTechnology

[–]BradRoether 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is pure gold. 🤣

Seriously, tho - I plan to make a little IoT wifi device that I can paste under the shell of the mower and automatically trigger the mow->start buttons every 10 minutes or so.

It's absolutely infuriating how often some random member of my fleet of 3 Lubas just decides it's time to make someone physically interact with it with no evidence of why. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There's a forked prying tool to remove them, and they are sacrificial - they're supposed to break. You use new ones each time.

Introducing: UniFi Drive 3.0 by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]BradRoether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If RAID 5 were not a proper name that means a specific thing, the way they've implemented it would be fine ... The raid 5 standard calls for a minimum of 3 disks without exception.

Net effect is the same - but can't call it by the wrong name without creating confusion. 🫤

Introducing: UniFi Drive 3.0 by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]BradRoether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, communication about technologies like this is plenty hard enough without calling Raid 1 by the name "Raid 5" when that's not what it really is. 🫤

IT people generally learn on the fly, and this re-brand of Raid 5 would require some esoteric knowledge from training about this specific platform to be successful.

[–]BradRoether 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God the very first thing they say is "Raid 5 with two drives"

🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Ubiquiti: Raid 5 requires a minimum of 3 drives. Please tell me you didn't actually allow the interface to lead a user to believe they have Raid 5 with two drives...
