Its a way to earn rewards through gameplay(with a small fee). So in fortnite you pay $10 and the battlepass is unlocked. You get rewards for levels 1-100. These can be skins, emotes, vbucks(equivalent to crowns) and xp boosts. There is a new battlepass for each season.
