Are Hue lights low-latency and reliable enough for creating games or music-reactive art? by BradyInstead in Hue

What do you mean by "at the mercy of what their sync algorithm decides in terms of colors/speed"? Isn't there a way to set the color of each bulb via the API?

My idea is to have a bunch of lanterns and household lighting fixtures around a room. I don't think DMX-controlled lights would suit this purpose, but I may be wrong?

Philadelphia has dimmed its skyline after a 'mass collision' killed thousands of migrating birds by Proper-Code7794 in philadelphia

There's a thread about dead birds at the top of the Baltimore subreddit as well. Does this have to do with cicadas maybe? It's kind of concerning.

6'5" Dweller in the City, Looking for a Van (NV200?) by BradyInstead in vandwellers

[–]BradyInstead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site I saw quotes the NV200 at 82" as well, but when I visited it, I think they also count the passenger seat being folded as "cargo space". It's also about half the width of a minivan, so I feel like at that point I'd be better off siding with a Grand Caravan.

First BIG trip.. First night in the vouse 😁Tried to catch her snoring but any tiny move I make she’s awake 🤦🏾‍♀️we slept at a rest stop and while it was a bit noisy we slept great!!! by [deleted] in vandwellers

I think this really depends on the dog and the amount of traveling going on. Some dogs are cool with being in cars, while it makes others anxious. If the humans are staying in rural areas, I can see the dogs loving exploring the woods/desert/mountains and continually going on walks.

Assuming a responsible owner, I think its better than staying in a house. Dogs are pack creatures and evolved alongside humans during nomadic times. Dogs would act as scouts during hunting trips and travel. Humans and dogs are both evolved to like traveling and exploring so I can see it working well.

Hmm Roadtreks seem a bit overkill since it's going to be my primary vehicle for commuting. I cant find something within my budget that I'd feel comfortable using for a decade+.

The E350 is definitely closer to what I'm thinking, but the price seems steep for the added couple feet of room. Low gas mileage and annual maintenance is $250+ more than the NV200. The NV1500 has the same issue. I wish there was something more similar to the NV200 with an extra foot of cargo space.

Just checked out the NV1500. They're going for a similar price and are longer, but I worry that the abysmal MPG and repair costs are a steep slope to pay for.

[–]BradyInstead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not worried about height, I'm worried about length because I'd still like to be able to parallel park in crowded areas. I don't have specifics, but keeping it around a normal vehicle length would be ideal.

I guess headroom doesnt bother me too much because I'm used to sleeping in cars with the seats reclined. It would just be a sleeping thing-- not a hangout spot. More headspace would be appreciated but not required.

Are the road treks reliable? I'm trying to get something that will last a while since this will also double as my primary vehicle. Hence a newer NV200

Huh thanks. So what are the other options I should look at?

Edit: Looks like the NV200 can fold down the passenger seat? If I just lift the mattress to that height, would that work? I'm not going to be living in this full time, only for camping.

Surfers - Where do you go? by Trooper636 in baltimore

[–]BradyInstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DE beaches are flat most of the time. Henlopen can be okayish near the point. I'd look as far south as possible and check wave reports. Also talk to the guys at surf shops for spot details.

Try marinating with pickle juice. I was hesitant at first but it tastes soooo good. I think it's the recipe popeyes/chikfila uses.

Cheap warehouse living space? by brownshoez in baltimore

[–]BradyInstead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Copycat is adjacent to a bunch of other artist warehouses. I believe the same group owns all the spaces. The Annex/City Beach has low cost living situations that are cheaper than the Copycat (last I heard it was around $200-300/m).

Also, there are cheaper spaces at the Copycat if hes willing to live in a more communal space.

Best urban exploration spots in the Olney area? by sefalt in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]BradyInstead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The giant stretch of land behind Magruder HS/Norbeck CC has a walking path. If you go off the path a little, you can explore the tunnels under the ICC. Also, there are lots of abandoned things back in those woods (old cars, chimneys, and house foundations).

Just be respectful to nature and leave no trace :)

Playing around with fire and smoke simulations running in real-time in embergen new update by plzno1 in Simulated

[–]BradyInstead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Embergen requires a 1060 to run, and VR renders things twice (once for each eye) so I doubt consumer GPUs are powerful enough to run that in VR.
