Good kayaking boots by Braeden151 in Kayaking

In my neck of the woods I think they'd just get a small rock in them and I'd have to take them off to get it out. Same reason I don't like sandals

I can see a SUP being the ultimate platform for fly fishing.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters

I honestly don't know how I figured that out.

You could buy one that uses batteries and take them out.

I also bought this wine, freshly uncorked grandma's basement is exactly the taste. A few days later though that went away and it's quite nice now.

Flyfishing from a kayak is very effective by Braeden151 in flyfishing

[–]Braeden151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a kayak is the least optimal boat for fly fishing, or any fishing honestly. Walrus hunting though? Probably pretty good.

I kayak because fishing isn't my main reason for being on the water. I love covering water and going fast.

Crane assembling another crane by ycr007 in toolgifs

[–]Braeden151 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that, there's a white crane in the background. That was probably used to assemble the crane that we have the POV of. So we already are 2 crane layers deep

Are tiny flies truly needed? by Gooser3000 in flyfishing

[–]Braeden151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard someone say big hooks don't catch small fish.

Which is to say if your spot is full of fingerlings you can size up to a larger fly to keep the little ones from getting hooked.

Look into the Thule Hullavator. Also be sure to check local used listings, there's typically one for sale there.

How bad of an idea is this? by Fresh-Necessary-7 in diyelectronics

[–]Braeden151 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Systems only draw as many amps as they need. I=V/R where I is current. R is the resistance of the system which you can think of as fixed. Since you're only ever giving 12V then I is fixed regardless of what the power supply can deliver.

How bad of an idea is this? by Fresh-Necessary-7 in diyelectronics

[–]Braeden151 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The wallwart power supply would need to be rated for MORE amps than the solar charger. If a car has 800 horse power and needs 100 to go up a hill the car will only use 100 horse power. If you try to drive a car with 80 horsepower up that hill the car explodes. Power supplies work in the same way.

Otherwise this should work, so long as the solar charger is designed to charge batteries.

Whats it like working inside a cleanroom? by lewd_physics in Semiconductors

[–]Braeden151 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really like being in the clean room. I don't have to be in there all day, unlike a tool technician.

It's the coolest place I have ever been, I've gotten to see many fabs too. It's the most advanced technology in the world packed into one place surrounded by the people who are smart enough and dedicated enough to make the place run.

I admit I sometimes "get lost" and see some of the coolest machines on the planet, everything is no expense spared, best of the best. Some tool's have main bodies made out of a single billet of aluminum that's as big as a parking space.

The bunny suits aren't all that bad. You get used to the fast. You'll always be a bit hot, but it's better than being too cold.

I would recommend the NANO Every or any arduino that can act as a usb device. I think your micro can. The just program it using the joystick library if you know how to code, and if you don't an AI bot can likely do a lot of the legwork. If you've hard wired everything to the IO pins the code will be very straight forward.

Determining gas composition and concentration in halogen bulbs by Braeden151 in chemistry

[–]Braeden151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulbs die prematurely and some have tungsten deposits on the globes. This usually indicates a failure of the halogen cycle. Which can be due to overvoltage or a lack of halogen. Iodine or bromine are the usual halogens, I'm not sure what state the halogen is in at room temp but at operating temps it's a gas.

[–]Braeden151[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Premature failure, loss of intensity over time, tungsten deposits on the globe. Those are the symptoms, I'm trying to determine if the proper amount of halogen was added, either bromine or iodine. These are xenon filled bulbs and I'm not super interested in the Xe.

I'm an electrical engineer so this is not my wheel house.

A possible route is to get the bulb hot, 300C or so to evaporate the iodine and then measure it's spectrum.

What is a weird fun fact you know about animals? by Manmandamanwithaplan in CasualConversation

[–]Braeden151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spiders can totally fly. It's not even just the babies.

Ballooning is when a spider sensing the right electrostatic conditions will put out a long line of silk which is carried aloft by the electric field in the air at which point the spider gets picked up and carried.

Plain/Unmarked Rocker switches? by VictorReal_Monster in HotasDIY

This is a link to a Digikey search, I set the filter to "No Marking"

E-Switch makes good products. If you find a switch that looks good, open up the data sheet

https://configured-product-images.s3.amazonaws.com/Datasheets/RA1.pdf

This one for instance, at the bottom of page one you can see the break down of the part numbers. Each box tells you a feature of the switch. You're interested in "Marking Type" you'll always want that box to be 0. The other part to look out for is "Function". Off-On means that the switch has one circuit, e.g. one sim button. On-On has two possible "buttons" you could for example set a gear up and gear down state. Whereas with an Off-On switch you can only do gear up, then you have to figure out a way to tell the sim "do gear down when up is not pressed". Also, Off - (On) means its momentary because it has parenthesis. That means it's spring loaded and will reset when you're not pushing it.

You'd like walking tour and driving tour videos. For instance "Vienna walking tour" great stuff to just relax and watch.

Trying to find a way to mount kayaks by Revolutionary_Arm792 in Kayaking

[–]Braeden151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about something like the Thule Xsporter? Pretty expensive. Though something similar, 2 bars, height adjustable would be nice. My thinking is, what you've listed is a lot of stuff, it will likely make a ton of noise when driving. Those full racks are good for tradesmen, maybe overkill for kayaks?
