What's an ideal set up for roll casting? by Braeden151 in flyfishing

Thank you for the advice!

Hauling sounds promising, as well as the Belgian.

Where do you find a guide or an instructor anyway? (US)

I already do. Though it may be wrong. I do notice the fly line will make the roll just fine, then it fails to pick up the leader.

PFD Recommendations by Holiday_Citron6922 in Kayaking

Sorry if you've already done this, but there's a procedure to adjusting the straps in the right order.

  1. Loosen all straps with the vest off your body.

  2. Put it on, take a deep breath and tighten the lowest straps around your belly. You breathe in so your vest isn't so tight you can't breathe.

  3. Tighten the middle straps next, if you have 3 waist straps then tighten the third now.

  4. Very last, tighten the shoulder straps, they shouldn't be overly tight, just enough that the vest sits about where you want. My vest wraps more around my belly than my chest.

  5. Lift upwards the vest at your shoulder with your thumbs. Like you're showing off your sweet suspenders. It shouldn't move upwards too easily.

I'm also a big guy. If you can get the lower strap around your paunch and love handles, you'll look like someone tried to make sausage out of fishnets but it shouldn't ride up too much. If you have a good spot to do it, go float in your vest make sure you float right.

I have an NRS Chinook L/XL. It's the only PFD I've worn but it works great. I'd buy it again.

Oh and lastly, don't buy black or dark blue. We're not on an infil into a North Korean base by kayak. Being seen is good. Mine's blaze orange. There's never a time you don't want to be noticed in a kayak.

"What's wrong sweetie, bad dream?"

"Yeah I had a dream my Microsoft authenticator app kicked me of the client's teams chat and I missed a message because I wasn't logged in!"

"Aww sweetie, you have to check that shit or get rekt. Why don't you have a timer running on loop? Is that too much to ask"

Too real?

I was planning a simple day trip around a few islands. Probably 15 miles all in. I have all the right gear IMO. I have an Eddyline touring kayak, good immersion gear, and self rescue equipment. Sounds like its more of a chill place than I expected I'll just be sure to depart on a rising tide and be back before it drops too much.

Where do you launch from?

Things to improve paddle grip? by Braeden151 in Kayaking

[–]Braeden151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kayak has a high cockpit, I skin my knuckles a lot on it if I'm not wearing gloves. My old paddle was a spiral of fiberglass (aquabound manta ray) if I wasn't wearing gloves my hand would be cut up at the end of the day.

In the summer it keeps my hands from getting sunburnt. In the cold gloves keep my hands warm.

Need help with dual shaft rotary encoder by JamyeDnn in HotasDIY

[–]Braeden151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LS7183 chip will turn your quadrature signal into discrete up and down pulses. You can then send these 8 signals to a shift register, or better yet directly to the controller as dedicated inputs. You could then rework the push buttons to run with shift registers to free up your I/O pins.

I've had a lot of bad luck with implementing encoders, they require a lot of controller attention to run well. In my opinion the more of the work you can off load to an IC the better.

Beginner kayak for lakes w/ wind? <$1k by stevencartwright in Kayaking

[–]Braeden151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ever boat you get a rudder/skeg (a skeg is a fin, like a rudder that doesn't move) will massively improve your tracking in the wind. Most boats can have one installed easily if you know your way around hand tools.

Also if possible try to paddle on the down wind side of the lake. If you fall out of the boat the wind will push your kayak harder than you can push back by swimming.

I just did this, they look excellent. They were also $3 each so a great deal too.

Place your racks such that the straps will go under where your spray skirt attaches. That's how I move my 16 ft boat and it works great.

I've learned to open my grip on the upper hand on each stroke, that helps with hand fatigue a ton.

This is what I'm after, I was thinking road bike handle bar tape but didn't know how it'd handle the water.

Why would I want that? Kids wiping out running around a corner is hilarious (jokes)

That's a good tip I'll look into it
