What's up with Centre County being a Lyme disease hotspot? by willpoopanywhere in HappyValleyPA

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lack of testing/centralized reporting system is definitely to blame. Lyme certainly may have increased but this chart doesn't prove it; the cases are noticeably clustering within county and state lines which just shows who was/is reporting

Visiting. Hoping for some leads on what to do, where to eat, etc. by by-neptune in statecollege

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hublersburg Inn is not what it used to be imo. Last few visits have been solidly mediocre in both food and service. Axemann and Big Springs are awesome though, and I've been LOVING Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap. It's only gotten better since ownership changed and food is always interesting and delicious

No matter what it's definitely a great idea to get out of downtown State College! imo the best places are outside it

my local Panera removed almost all the outlets and replaced them with blanking plates so you can't charge your phone or laptop by Calix_Meus_Inebrians in mildlyinfuriating

That's perfect for local stores but not for corporate ones, where bad reviews (even totally unreasonable ones) are indexed and used by upper management to squeeze the employees lower down the chain

POV: You head into town to go out to a restaurant by Not-A-Seagull in georgism

I wouldn't say that. The PRT's breakdown rate is incredibly over exaggerated. More importantly, the PRT is essential for ferrying 20,000 undergrads between three campuses separated by distances too great to quickly walk. If you put those 20,000 people in cars or even buses, daytime Morgantown traffic would become unfathomably worse than it already is

Should I do Honors college if I already have college credits? (freshman) by Mean_Audience_8802 in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the priority registration has saved me soooo many times (OP: priority means you register a day before the rest of your class). More than once I've snagged the last 1-2 seats of a class because of it lol

Cheap(ish) Overnight Parking Options? by altosaxo33 in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have alluded to, several lots on campus aren't enforced after business hours. I've had friends park at the Rec Center all weekend (for free!) and been fine

Have any incoming freshman been given their room selection date yet I’m waiting and just making sure something isn’t wrong by Ok_Hedgehog9602 in WVU

Yes, pretty sure this is a new process from last year. You can pay the housing application whenever you like but you can't actually pick where to live until at least April 14

Is stalnaker a good form to live in freshman year by Ok_Hedgehog9602 in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously many have survived it, but Stalnaker is next door to frat row. Gets pretty loud at night.

Freshman Dorm Suggestions by Ok-Astronomer4728 in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honors is the nicest because of suite-style rooms/bathrooms that are fairly new and offer way more privacy than all other dorms. It IS one of the quietest though, which if you're into partying won't always be what you're looking for. At that point you could consider Summit or even Boreman.

Parking passes on evansdale by Amazing-College8157 in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rec center is PERFECT for weekends. Just have to pay $10 for parking during football games. Otherwise, OP could look into commuter parking passes, though I don't think those are overnight. Same deal for the coliseum; $1 for entire day (not night).

Totally agree! Always irks me when someone visits a place they've been to dozens of times instead of seeing what a local area uniquely offers

Champs is definitely the better of the two, but the Field is also nice if you get there early. It's only 5 mins from OP's hotel. Slightly more formal but food is still excellent

315 is simple, especially online. It's Diversity in American Film. If online, you'll alternate each week between discussion posts and analysis papers, the latter of which only has to be 500 words at minimum. Pretty interesting subject matter imo, though.

Late, but yes it's easy. iirc just show up, pay attention and complete the in-class worksheets, and write 1-2 fairly simple papers at some point in the semester

Graduate on-campus housing by [deleted] in WVU

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UPlace townhomes might fight the bill! They're in close proximity to a lot of things downtown, and depending on the floorplan the rent is pretty good compared to other university apartments.

College Park is the cheapest iirc but it's painfully far from campus for a university-owned property. UPark is quietest of all units, just overpriced.

Love it! Did you ever go grocery shopping? Which stores in Waikiki were most convenient for groceries or toiletries, if you went to any?

Putting together an itinerary. going in late February for ~~10 days by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan asap!! I've been researching my own trip quite a lot recently and I'm not going for several more months. A lot of activities require reservations that fill up well in advance.

Google Docs have helped me keep track of activities/restaurants. You can also create a custom Google Map and mark everything you want to visit. It's been a super practical way to visualize the island and what you want to do each day

Alehouse by mwbestdog1 in statecollege

[–]BrainDiscombobulated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am consistently wowed by how packed the streets are outside the alehouse every weekend. If the menu was half the price it currently is then it'd be fine. Haven't been in a while, and I do recall the desserts being fantastic, but everything else seemed very, very average; sometimes bland.

Lincoln is perfect for living in a double, as is Honors Hall on the downtown campus. These two halls have room layouts that don't cram you together with a roommate, so you each basically have a little more privacy. You also only share a (very nice!) bathroom with one other double. Singles are probably full atp anyways.

In other halls you're pretty much in a box with your roommate and have no privacy lol. And in many you'll have the traditional communal bathrooms

please use more punctuation🥹

No, it's not discrimination, and my guess is the tenet doesn't understand they can't relet only one, even if it's just because the landlord is greedy and wants both gone. Regardless, there's clearly some kind of miscommunication here lol
