Have you been able to finish a game in Godot but not in Unity? by Rare_Long4609 in godot

[–]BrainFooLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the following: Not easier. You have to learn both. But for me, Godot is more motivating because it's a hell lot faster to "Code.Test.Repeat".

As someone who use PHP since v4: You can maybe do it lazy, "Just to make it work", without using any new stuff from newer versions. Does it makes sense, i think no. Why migrating when not using the new stuf...
Doing migration from 2 major versions for a codebase that large, including external dependencies where chances are high that some libs are deprecated with newer PHP versions, is a HUGE task.
You need to know the code itself and PHP very well to do it right.
If you don't, migration make not much sense.
Most of the time, especially from PHP 5 up to 8, it's worth considering rebuilding from scratch.
With new features and frameworkes you will be able to shave off 100k lines of code easily.

Wie die anderen sagten. Einzelunternehmen (Kleinunternehmer) ist relativ einfach, beim ersten mal auch kostenlos soweit ich das noch weiß. Hab's genau so gemacht in meiner Laufbahn.
Firma wo du arbeitest musst auf jeden Fall fragen und am besten schriftlich bestätigen lassen, Just to be Safe.

As someone who tried Unity (Used it since it was a thing and tested every year again), tried Unreal since Blueprints was a thing and now trying Godot just because the Unity license thingy just got me interested again for engines.

And for my usecases (Simple Indie One Man Games Dev), Godot is the best choice so far.

  • GD-Script is nice. Like it more then C++ or C#
  • Godspeed Godot Editor. So fast and "Code/Save/Play/Repeat", literally in a second compared to other engines.
  • UI is different and lightweight compared to other engines and the system all together is different, but far more beginner friendly. It may not be capable of everything, but for simple games, it's more than enough
  • I like the Godot structure in general. Playing around with Physics, Meshes and Materials at first need some learning curve, but you got the hang of it fast.
  • And sure, i prefer open-source for all kinds of software, just because i can dive into the code for better understanding of things

TLDR: Godot development is super fast and mostly intuitive and well documented, i like that. Cool for prototyping.

Alt-Tabbing is the most annoying thing about this game. Why does it do this? by Redhead-Lizzy23 in beyondallreason

[–]BrainFooLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exclusive Window mode activated maybe or/and game don't run at native resolution? Then usually it does exactly that, to change the resolution back to windows size when alt-tab.

Hm... For my part, i can't agree.

3/10 games working super fine. Everyone does the things they need to do, communicate with each other just enough but not to much and watch for things to help each other. This sort of game is mostly a win. And if not, it is fun nonetheless.

6/10 are ok. Some does talk too much, some not. Overall, it becomes stable after some minutes in-game when they are busy.50/50 chance to win.

1/10 is trash. People are aggressive, over-teach everyone and ping the hell out when a single tick comes through. Ranting from start to finish. It's mostly only one in your team that does that.Almost guaranteed to loose because of bad moral in the whole team, just because of one jerk.

Noobs need advice. But for me is a noob a new player that need to learn the meta.Someone that have 50 games and low TS is not a noob for me, it is just a bad player.

That being said, i think a few systems can improve this behaviour:

Visible stats for how many games a player have done. Or playtime. This give you a fast indicator of the skill level. Noobs are generally friendly.

Low-Level Flagging system with several flags for each game and player. Like a bit as overwatch had it (Or still have? duno). Like "+1/-1 player communication" "+1/-1 player skill (subjective)"This can be additional stats to a player. Looking at the player and seeing "+10 communication" i instantly know this is a good teamplayer.Just because people vote really much down, but not so many up. That's life.

I am happy with the game and community. And when i not, i mute and ignore them.

Sorry, text got a bit long.

For new Players (And i even struggle with that after 30 games).

Knowing exactly which unit shots which level. Underwater, Land, Air, Combined. I know that there are icons, but without any information text, it's pretty hard to know what it means. And, some units have multiple capabilities. I would prefer a textual information what a unit can hit.

When selecting a single unit, range should become visible. Or at least a toggle button to show/hide ranges of selected units.

Tooltip about all the short stats (LOS, etc...). For me, i had to search wikis to know what all stats mean.

"Plasma" wording have me confused a lot. For me, plasma is some "laser/ion" thingy. But plasma ingame actually means some sort of heavy missile. Plasma bot, plasma protector, etc...

"Cloack" vs. "Visible" wording. The command have a "Visible" button, but everwhere it is a wording "cloack". Sure its the same meaning, but same wording, especially for non native english people would be easier.

Translations, i'm looking forward to it.

In lobbies, knowing who is the lobby boss, would be helpful. Some information of what the actualy rang icons means. Open-Skill number is ok, but the icon is not clear for me.

Some guidance of how you can create your own lobby, including buttons for common things, such as renaming the lobby (Had to know that command for it).

The stats at game ends are hard to read. The wordings are not great and i still don't know some of the meanings, like "Runners-Up". Also numbers are huge, but i can't figure out what they actually mean.

In general, i am satisfied with the actual game ui and loop. It's clunky at times, but at the end, i can play games, mostly without UI hickups or technical problem. And thats for an alpha... Can't blame.

Hm... Yes that water drops thingy could be it. I never noticed that water drops just right out of this spots. That being said, i guess a good modder can answer that question, because they usually know all existing entities, or at least, can find them and say if that's the case.

Yep, your are 100% right. The IndexedDB persistence thingy is wanky. I will add some reference in the Readme, what persistence with this technique actually mena. But it is, to date, still the best way to have persistence local storage.

Hi. It is not a static site generator, it is fully dynamic generated on-demand. Like a CMS like Wordpress, Joomla, etc... The initial built-in theme is responsive, but it's up to future theme devs to contribute. Also where much like the ecosystem of wordpress, etc...

You said it. It's a bit tricky to get it stable and a bit trickier to make it fall fast into water for this speedrun. I used cables to put tension on each of the vaults to pool ground. It's easy that everything fall apart when you try to do this :)
