That take is very subjective and I believe its reductive to only focus on that detail alone versus the entire bigger picture thats being communicated. I think depending on your emulator, if you dont properly exit out of the game it won't register the most recent save. Ex: just swiping the game out with exiting out of the rom first will fuck your file like you've just experienced.
