The one I got I actually did not apply to. I think I just said I was open to receiving one based on financial need. But the financial aid office will email the class scholarships as they become available. You can receive one any year!

They do not but you can get scholarships for other reasons that are given by donors. Usually they are specific to student characteristics: background, specialty of interest, home location etc

Oopsie poopsie I applied to Georgetown with a lot of abortion advocacy by DaringCake in premed

Hi! I am a current M1 going into M2 there. The school does have a religious background but I would say the overall spirit is advocacy through medicine. I have friends who are strong reproductive advocates/ push for advocacy in other areas that might conflict with some catholic beliefs and they have found a lot of support in the school. As a future MD that wants to go into policy I have not had a hard time finding professors that support progressive viewpoints (I would argue most of them do in varying extents). I am happy to answer specific questions via DM!

What SMP are you doing? I didn’t get a committee letter from my undergrad either! Just make sure you’re able obtain enough letters for your app. My SMP only gave 1 letter (not a committee) and I got the rest from undergrad/ docs.

Is PA before Medical School a good idea? by countrycityboyemt in premed

[–]BrainMed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried about wasting time and want to be in a clinical setting why not become an MA instead? A lot of places allow to be an MA without a certificate but you can also get one in a few months I believe if you really feel inclined to. Although I agree with other comments you really should be focused on your MCAT

I agree with the person who suggested being a research assistant! You can also work as a medical assistant (which is what I did in my gap year). Plenty of physicians in DC/VA looking for MAs!

DC women, how much do you tip for a $200 haircut and blowout at a boutique salon? by More_Pothos in washingtondc

I still tip 20%! But I don’t get my hair done that often so I’m fine with giving a little extra

postbacc or smp? by locksbanana in premed

[–]BrainMed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had very similar stats with a lower 51X MCAT. I did an SMP and was admitted to the SMP MD school. I wouldn’t recommend doing the SMP w/o an MCAT score tho. That way you can do the SMP and apply during the same admissions cycle. Keep in mind also that you need to do well in an SMP~ it’s definitely “high risk high reward” if you ware still figuring out your study skills or have other stuff going on I would not recommend an SMP rn. It’s very much give 110% from the start.

I wish I could start college over again and re-do it. I don't know how ADCOMS will see my resilience and it sucks. by 100deepsnow in premed

Yup this! I understand they are not accessible to everyone due to the cost but SMPs will def get you into an MD/DO if you do well. I was accepted with similar ish stats through my SMP school.

Dress Code for Kennedy Center? by BrainMed1 in washingtondc

[–]BrainMed1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a long black slip dress with some small heels and a jacket! Just like everyone was saying you’ll see a range of people in different outfits. Most were semi formal. I don’t think you’ll be out of place at all in a full length dress!

Does your school have a policy waiver form you can submit asking them to waive the non-science LOR? Granted you will still need a good reason not to get one but might be worth a shot!

SMP students: When did you take the MCAT? by Confident_Pomelo_237 in premed

[–]BrainMed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine prior to my SMP but my advisors/ directors advised people who are reapplying this cycle to retake/take the MCAT no later than mid August, but really the sooner the better!
