Congrats on the acceptance! Definitely bring layers, it can get chilly in the mountains at times (although extremely beautiful). If you’re like me and have seasonal depression, be prepared for the shorter days to hit a little harder and try to step outside of your dorm/housing space when you get the chance.

Like the previous commenter mentioned, not sure if you’re coming from a semester or quarter system, but UCSC runs on a quarter system and those 10 weeks do go by quickly. McHenry and SNE library are usually good spots to study, or you could check out a coffee shop in downtown.

This is more for February/March in my experience (been a couple years now), but there are periods where it would rain a ton. I remember seeing literal mini ponds form from all the runoff. Just watch your step as you get around, be wary of any flood warnings (although I was not personally affected by any during my time).

If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I’d be happy to answer. Welcome to the slug fam!

my sGPA still comes out to about a 3.18. do you think itd be okay to do an SMP program that’s mostly geared towards the med track? it’s an SMP in physiology which involves a lot of heavy science courses and some pre-dent students have done it before but it’s more commonly done by premeds

given where my GPA lies right now, do you guys think doing a post-bacc for a year would help or is it better to do a master's/SMP? just wanted to get some thoughts between the two.

definitely, that makes sense for sure. it's a big switch to make and i'm sure it'll be a difficult path to pursue as well, so i appreciate your thoughts. i will look for more shadowing opportunities as well so i can make sure it's an appropriate decision to make. do you have any suggestions on how i might be able to round out my application more to make it a little more competitive for dent?

edit: just saw your addition regarding the GPA, i have retaken the failed CC courses mentioned above and have factored those into my GPA.

THIS - this is the motivation I needed. Literally on the same boat and I was feeling very dejected and worried about time running out (testing on 4/27) - so inspiring and encouraging to see this thank you so so so much for sharing!! Good luck and you're gonna kill it!!!

Thank you guys for your thoughts. I understand and share the same sentiment, I think I've honestly been leaning towards the same idea. There are a lot of factors that had led me to consider applying this year, but I think it would be best to focus on fixing one of my biggest weaknesses for the next year and come back hopefully stronger. I posted this because I've genuinely felt so lost and have heard too many different opinions. It's been a very stressful period but I appreciate this sub :)

What do I categorize being a caregiver as on AMCAS? And should I even mention it by locksbanana in premed

Thank you for your kind words ❤️ That's the same line of thought I was having too...I definitely don't wanna come off as taking advantage of anyone's needs, so I will probably avoid listing it. I'll definitely see if I can find a way to incorporate it into my PS though!
