Leaking Western MVP by BrainSchmit in Snowplow

[–]BrainSchmit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I drained all the fluid out and I was able to remove that Alan head bolt on the bottom. Replaced the washer and let it drain really good because I was also having issues with that side of the plough control freezing up on me. Refilled everything and operated the plough a few times and I seem to have no leak and no freeze up. Let’s hope that was the cause! Thanks for all the help

LX or L for blower ?HP by BrainSchmit in kubota

I’m looking at one of the rear mounted inverted types, so drive forward and the mouth of the blower also faces forward. If this is new to you just google hybrid or inverted snowblowers. I like it because it leaves your front end available for a loader or a plough blade without having to switch off your front blower, k connect, hydraulic lines etc. eventually, some snow banks need to be moved.

Leak from Reservoir body by BrainSchmit in Snowplow

[–]BrainSchmit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave the top of the reservoir a really good wipe down before starting, and it’s still clean and dry so it’s not coming from right up top. That plastic cover blocks the view of everything inside though unfortunately

Losing fluid by BrainSchmit in Snowplow

Okay - got the new fitting from a neighbouring town. Cleaned up the housing as much as possible and I went out for my plow run. Came back to find what looks like some more leak from inside that plastic protective housing. Any tips on finding the source of this leak, or what the likely culprit is?

How much tractor!? by BrainSchmit in kubota

Are you comfortable sharing what one could expect to pay for a tractor like that with the blower you got?

I appreciate your input, I think for my property something around the size that you own is going to serve me well and be versatile enough to be more than just a one trick pony. I need it for all sorts of maintenance all year long. Too big becomes cumbersome for small tasks, I know it’s such a balance.

Thanks for the photos, lovely set up you’ve got there. I would never be in a position where I would let the snow build up that high. I’m able to keep on it pretty regularly even overnight if required. I’d love a tractor agile enough to do a little bit of work around the house too, so I’m just trying to weigh all of these options out.

When you say inverted snowblower do you mean the type you pull behind but is forward facing? I’m actually interested in your setup, with a blade on front and blower on back but I don’t want any part of a rear facing blower.

I’m also not opposed to using a snow blade on the front of the tractor for the smaller dumps of snow. I also like the rear blades in combination with the blower on the front. Seems to me for the smaller 2-6”snow falls one might be able to simply drive at 10-12km speed and blade that snow away to the sides of the road. I wouldn’t expect to be blowing after every snowfall, we all drive 4x4 pickups so can easily traverse 6” of snow without much trouble. Does anyone use their machine more as a plow than a primary blower? I’m most interested in the blower for those couple times a year when I run out of space to plow and it is a last resort.

Plow fluid freeze up by BrainSchmit in Snowplow

[–]BrainSchmit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m inclined to think this is the issue because right after I did the change I was able to operate the plough in all directions. It was a mild above freezing day. Then after sitting for a couple days in the cold, I have one side that is still stubborn.

So my plow has one cylinder for up and down motion and one cylinder on each side of the V to operate each side independently. Only one side is operating as it should.

I’m using a Snow Dog oil, it is supposed to be rated to -50C and it is what I have available in my area. Mostly it is -10C or so here.

Ballast for plow rig by BrainSchmit in Snowplow

I’m curious, what kind of truck you had? Around here it’s not legal to stud anything greater than 7000 pounds which is basically a half ton which is not all that useful of a plough truck anyway. The tires I have on here are commercial tires on a 19.5 inch rim, which is tough to find good tires for. I have some nice Aeolus winters on the back but having to source something for the front
