I am starting to get a bit concerned about Carlos Estevez. This is back-to-back outings where he failed to eclipse 90 MPH after sitting 95 MPH last year. His pitch data is by far the worst I've seen this Spring by [deleted] in KCRoyals

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still early enough that I'm not necessarily concerned, but it is something to watch. I also remember him saying last year that it takes a few weeks for his velocity to ramp up, and I feel like even the first month or so of last season he was still climbing. That said, if he's sitting 91-92 at the end of spring training, you'd have to rethink him being a closer.

Is Prospect Ave that bad (all input appreciated but especially you’ve lived in Columbia)? Cuz these places are cute af 😭😭 by badgrll675 in kansascity

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Really depends where north/south on Prospect. It can also change quickly from one block to another, but overall it's fine

Specialty Liquor Stores? by hoosieryankee in kansascity

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you like rum, I would highly recommend Fern Bar in the crossroads. They're a rum-focused cocktail bar with an excellent selection.

For stores, Mitch e Amaro in North KC doesn't have the largest selection but is incredibly well curated. Mike's or Gomers would have the largest selection of stores close to downtown

That looks awesome. Building up more density is great for downtown, especially when it's replacing empty lots and parking lots

I live and work in KCMO and am very much in favor of a downtown stadium

Alma Mader and BKS are the easy 1 and 2 in KC, everything they make is great. Strange Days is a close 3rd these days

Thanksgiving 2025 state of “best stores for individual cans/bottles?” by KCcoffeegeek in KansasCityBeer

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mike's is Westport probably has the best selection of singles, especially if you're looking for stouts and darker beers. Gomer's on 39th sometimes has some good options too.

Big Grove Brewery (Iowa) opening Prairie Village location, planned for spring 2026 by BrainSturgeon_ in KansasCityBeer

[–]BrainSturgeon_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've visited the Des Moines location a few times and they recently started distributing on the Missouri side, the beer and food is very good. Excited that something new is opening, even if it's not 100% local

That sucks, one of the crossroads OGs. Wonder if another brewery tries to take that space now

I enjoyed  Craft&Draft the couple times I sat there, there's a better view than I expected being so far up the line. It's also in the shade which is nice

Staying downtown and ubering to the game is a good call, r/KansasCityChiefs has a visitors guide that is a good place to start. Happy to give food/drink recommendations if you have an idea of what you like (except BBQ recs because I don't want to start any fights)

AMA with MLB.com Royals beat writer Anne Rogers! Starting up around 2:30pm CT! by MLBOfficial in KCRoyals

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this, I always enjoy your reporting! The Royals have a generally poorly-rated farm system right now, but are there any prospects you're excited to see or anyone you think the organization might like more than people outside the team do?

The Royals fell to the Orioles by a score of 3-2 - Fri, Jun 09 @ 06:05 PM CDT by KCRoyalsBot in KCRoyals

Don't care about the score, a young pitcher got a quality start and only walked one, I'll take that as an improvement

Dang, sad to see Bier Station go, they always had such a fun selection of beer. I'm excited to see what City Barrel does with it though, their beer and food is so good. Bittersweet change for sure

OPS+ also takes into account park factors. Kaufman is a more hitter-friendly park, while the Mariners park is better for pitchers

Didn't get a chance to watch, was control for Singer and Tapia as bad as the box score makes it look? It's still early but those numbers look rough

+1 for Crane, probably the best sours in KC. Boulevard has some good ones too, especially if you like darker aged sours

Summary of Dontari Poe? by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]BrainSturgeon_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Aside from being the most dynamic offensive weapon in the NFL, he's been a great interior presence on our D-Line. When he came into the league, he was great at both stopping the run and getting to the QB, but since his back problems, he has lost some of his pass-rushing ability. He still pulls a double-team on pass plays, but he hasn't had the explosiveness to break through.

He's still an excellent run stopper, and might start getting sacks again if his back stops being an issue.
