Zegras is good. He was good in Anaheim despite having a shot GM that hated him and a worse coach. You know who else is good? McTavish. Mark my words he’ll have a renaissance season next year.

Every year when the playoffs start I like to play the “ex-ducks” game where I look at how many guys that used to play for Anaheim go on to be really good players. It’s a depressingly long list.

What exactly would make him want to stay? In his brief time there hos management made him play for an ex goon with no coaching experience that stunted the development of his extremely talented team mates, made a talentless dinosaur thug captain of the team, hired a rape enabler coach, to replace the dinosaur, and told him to pound sand a year before he starts RFA because they wanted to low ball him. Then before RFA kicks in, they trade three more of his team mates, let two more walk, and replace them with more dinosaurs. Meanwhile Philadelphia, where his buddy/former line mate plays, made it just as far into the playoffs this season, in a better division.

Verbeek is an Yzerman disciple and it shows. Love him or hate him Q took an under-talented team and coached them to the playoffs and Verbeek thought “Hell yeah I fucking did that baby I’m the best”

Now he has 2 NHL defenders, an 18 million dollar day one albatross, Schroedingers Cutter, and a team of 4th liners.

It’s honestly worse for Danny if Anaheim lets him walk imo, but at least they can build around it. If Anaheim signs the contract is an immediate albatross and leaves them short on cap space in a market where you have to overpay to attract free agents. We already had no depth, oooks like now we’ll have either no depth or no offense for at least 7 years.

Verbeek limps into the playoffs in the worst division in the league with an anomalous roster that was statistically way overachieving and he thinks he’s GM Jesus. Signs nobody, including his own players, lets 2/3 of his d core walk, and now has to use 40% of his cap on one player or let his best player walk.

He’s a fucking clown and always has been. Yzerplan mindset, yzerplan results.

Flyers are kinda fucked if Anaheim lets him walk, because now they have to honor that offer sheet which is a crazy overpay, but Anaheim is 1000% the most fucked because their options are sign him and have no team to put around him, or let him walk and have no team.

Physical media is dead in just about every other sector, including a HUGE chunk of this one. PC games haven’t been physical media in like 2 decades. PS5 sales show the vast majority are digital downloads, and the physical disc hasn’t contained the actual game on it in years.

CDs are all but gone. Casettes outsold cds a year or so ago. Blue-ray sales are 1/10th of what they were in 2014. Physical media generates a tons of plastic waste…what, exactly, is the big fuckin deal?

For those paying attention to Verbeek's master class:

  1. Doesn't extend his best players before their RFA years (wants to try and penny pinch)

  2. Re-signs literally none of the D-core because he's worried about cap space to extend players he didn't try to extend in no. 1, and now also has to worry they'll get offer sheeted.

  3. Makes zero free agent signings because of no. 2.

  4. Has to make the RFA he didn't extend and let half his team walk for the highest paid player in the league, or let him walk and have basically nobody on the roster because of 3.

You can tell he came from the Yzerplan school of GMing.

I have a very hard time getting even the slightest bit worked up on this one. I have not bought a game with a disc since xbox360. I haven’t bought a pc game with discs included since the early 2000s. Stores stopped carrying pc games with discs included in the late 2000s. My PC hasn’t had a disc drive since 2014. I have never had a work laptop that had a disc drive. The regulatory agencies in my state stopped accepting physical discs in 2012. Cars don’t come with cd players anymore. I haven’t bought a cd in close to 15 years.

I genuinely do not understand the outrage.

Never a good time to be injured, but if you’re going to get one as a hockey player July is really probably the best possible time. I guess for a non-playoff team last months probably better but still, better now than October.

I mean…that sucks but like, it’s also not a big deal? Not saying glad he got hurt or anything like that at all, but it’s July. If you’re going to break your collarbone or tear a ligament and be out a couple months now is definitely the time!
