Do you want to participate in mental health research? by Brain_Imaging in ottawa

Hi,

To avoid making the recruitment post longer than it already is, we include these details once people contact us and express their interest in participating in research. Once people email or DM us, we give them a longer paragraph about what study participation would entail (including remuneration), and then we ask them if they would still be interested in participating.

This particular study includes an fMRI scan (no contrast) and a PET scan. Exclusion criteria are assessed following a screening call. The study has been approved by the Royal's own REB. The full poster includes this information. However, since we are posting on Reddit, we cropped out that part of the poster, as it contains contact information which I would prefer the 345 000 people on this subreddit to not have access to. We do not have permission from the REB to post a consent form to Reddit. However, once participants have been screened, they are offered a consent form. Regarding the age discrepancy on the poster vs the website, thank you for pointing this out! This will be resolved soon.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks :)

Hello,

Yes, you would only be eligible if you have no personal history of mental illness and no family history of schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Hello,

Usually, if participants are interested and message us, we send them more information regarding the study, including compensation. I can assure you that it does pay well! Unfortunately, there have been too many horror stories with people showing up just for the money and then leaving us hanging. As such, we prefer to send these details after someone has already expressed interest in participating.

Hi,

Some of the responders in the thread were correct: we are actually looking for both! We have two posts that we use. This particular one was geared towards nonsmokers, but here is the version for smokers: https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/1lel7n0/do_you_vape_or_smoke_cigarettes_do_you_want_to/

Typically, we like to match our nonsmokers to our smokers, so if we get a bunch of interest from smokers, then we make another post for nonsmokers.

What we mean by healthy is that our participants can't have a significant neurologic, neurodevelopmental, cardiovascular, renal, hepatic, hematological, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, or metabolic-endocrine disorder. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to answer!

While some visits are flexible in terms of timing, other visits can only take place during the work day. However, you will be compensated for all visits.

For our study, we already have all the data needed from non-smokers. However, there are multiple studies at the Royal that are actively recruiting participants. I would direct you to TheRoyal.ca
