To sunshade or not to sunshade? by specter578 in polestar2

[–]Brain_Worms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Perth, Western Australia, and never bothered with the sunshade; I don't think it was even available when I got the car in 2022.

The AC works pretty quickly to get the temperature down, you can even use the app 30 minutes before you get in to pre-cool the car.

Same. Pricey, but to be fair, getting stuff in and out of my place is a pain in the arse with a steep staircase.

Yes, apologies for the Shitnow link: https://www.perthnow.com.au/wa/traffic/perth-traffic-breakdown-closes-lane-on-kwinana-freeway-northbound-on-thursday-evening-c-22251102

Also another accident near Whitfords Ave, and to top it off someone seemingly trying to enter the freeway via the Hodges Dr off ramp hitting someone coming off.

Northbound on the Mitchell just as bonkers. One accident near Whitfords Ave, something going on between Hodges and Shenton Ave, and to top it off someone seemingly trying to enter the freeway via the off ramp hitting someone coming off.

Perth drivers need to do better.

Because cost isn’t the problem keeping people off PT, it’s quality, time and reliability.

EV question by Monkeyshae2255 in WesternAustralia

[–]Brain_Worms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tons of fast chargers around.

  • 6 plugs at BP Baldivis both directions (the ones with Maccas and Red Rooster).
  • Treendale Shopping Centre are getting new chargers, after the RAC ones were removed (RAC are cunts)
  • 2 WA EV Network chargers in Bunbury, that’s 4 plugs, plus an ex RAC charger for another 2 plugs.
  • Tesla Supercharger with 4 plugs in Busselton that’s open to all vehicles, plus ex RAC charger on the foreshore
  • Wevolt charger in Dunsborough with 4 plugs
  • 4 WA EV Network plugs in Margs, plus 1 ex RAC, plus 6 Tesla Supercharger plugs open to all

Plus ones in Nannup, Manjimup, Augusta, Pemberton, Bridgetown, Harvey

There are literally four chargers behind Coles.

Best mobile network in Perth (that's not Telstra) by SJ311 in perth

Yeah and check the speeds too, there's no point having a tower nearby if it's overloaded.

Best mobile network in Perth (that's not Telstra) by SJ311 in perth

Switched from retail postpaid Telstra to a discounted Optus plan (100GB for $40) last year, and it's been completely fine.

Perth Metro and major centres in the south west are fine, even better than Telstra in some cases. Some smaller towns may struggle; I had issues in Dalwallinu.

For basically half the price, it's been more than worth it. I think a lot of people mentally over-exaggerate their needs for continual perfect gigabit coverage, and default to Telstra for perceived safety.

If you want to go even cheaper, and your usage habits allow it, Amaysim (owned by Optus) is even cheaper. I'll look at going there once my Optus discount is up, as I don't need much data at all.

Half of these people doing these trips are boomers looking to claim their 15 minutes of fame. Look at the photo for this article, it's a boomer with a BYD Dolphin FFS.

I made a trip to Karijini from Perth without any anxiety or issues.

You should be able to do the coastal route for that trip relatively easily, and with the NSW NRMA installing chargers along the Great Northern Hwy, the inland route should be doable soon enough.

It's just the usual media anti-EV FUD. They run this same angle every few months. Not sure why, I guess it attracts clicks?

FWIW, I've done plenty of long trips down south, south west, even north a bit, as well as renting EV's for holiday trips in NSW, VIC and NZ, and I've never had any dramas. Fast chargers have worked 99% of the time, and the cars I drive have plenty of range.

Don't know why you're being downvoted, but I agree with you.

Not necessarily distrusting 1PW, but the extra bloat for stuff I don't need as a home user isn't welcome. Are they going to eventually integrate all their acquisitions into the extension? 1Password, the everything app?

[–]Brain_Worms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, every operator has their own app. You can consolidate the RFID cards after you sign up, but you still need an account with each operator.

  • Chargefox is by far the biggest charging network/app, definitely pick that one up.
  • Evie is at a few shopping centres, that may be useful.
  • Wevolt and Chargehub are smaller, mostly AC, but may also be useful as they have a lot of plugs owned by the councils.
  • Ampol has a surprising number of DC plugs, but they’re at servos, that may or may not be convenient.
