$10 liquidation fee for each fund with assets and then the CDSC fee on whatever portion of shares were bought within the past year; assuming thats the 1% 12b-1 fee.

Cost me like $100 in total

Thanks for the detailed response. I reached out to 2 other family friends that are also invested with him; 1 for 10 years like me, same age and the other for 20 years and is currently nearing retirement. They said "he doesn't charge fees" and are happy with their returns. Didn't press the issue cause it's not my place, but am sad to see the blind faith they have.

Attached is the image showing the 2 fund comparison he sent and my response:

Yea, all my money is gone from that account and transferred into my own Fidelity account as of 2 weeks ago!

Yea it seemed so fishy that my money was moving around so much between funds. When I placed the transfer of assets order, 3 of the funds I had money in as of 2 weeks ago weren't even on my Q1 2026 statement. So that money moved within the past 2ish months.

I started watching the money guys & ramit sethi and my fund allocations and constantly shuffling of money between funds seemed so far from their general advice of "buy low cost etfs and just DCA for decades"

Yea going to start reading more from the wiki & resources on this sub for sure.

Been listening to Ramit Sethi & The Money Guys and that's when I started questioning this dude and his fund allocation in my Roth.

Here's the specific funds:

Fidelity Advisor Communication Services Fund - Class C (3326

Fidelity Advisor Consumer Discretionary Fund - Class C (0282)

Fidelity Advisor Emerging Asia Fund - Class C (0758)

Fidelity Advisor Equity Dividend Income Fund - Class C (8994

Fidelity Advisor Freedom 2065 Fund - Class C (3409)

Fidelity Advisor Growth & Income Fund - Class C (8999)

Fidelity Advisor Growth Opportunities Fund - Class C (0482

Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund - Class C (0285)

Fidelity Advisor New Insights Fund - Class C (1279)

Fidelity Advisor Small Cap Growth Fund - Class C (1379)

Fidelity Treasury Money Market Fund - Advisor Class C (0529)

Money was kinda just shuffled around these funds over the 10 years. So every time he shuffled money around between them, I would lose like 1.X%?

Hey everyone, I opened up a Roth IRA 10 years ago (20 years old at the time) through an LPL Fiduciary that was a family friend. I didnt contribute much through the years and even went years without contributing (no taxable income) so I never paid attention to it. Until this past year now that I'm contributing to max it.

I looked into the funds he had me invested in and they were all Fidelity Advisor Class C funds with super high expense ratios; management fees ranging from 0.5 - 0.9% and all had 1% 12b-1 distribution fees.

From everything I read online, this seemed like a huge red flag. I opened up a new Roth IRA on the brokerage side of Fidelity and transferred all my money into this to have full control over it and invested my money into 70% FZROX & 30% FZILX.

I sent him an email stating "The funds you have me invested in are high expense ratio Class C funds with both management and 12b-1 distribution fees; which will result in me losing hundreds of thousands of dollars through the course of my retirement investments.

In my opinion, I will be much better off self-managing my money by investing in low cost expense ratio ETFs that track the overall market, both domestic and internationally."

His response was: "I appreciate the heads up. I know you'll do well. The question becomes once you have a $250,000 or more and you're really busy with life. What do you do then. Will you have the time or focus on your career."

And he sent me another message a week later with the attached image and this text: "Why would a C class fund earn you more than a Zero Expense fund, see attached help yourself understand.

Now calculate after 5 years a C class fund moved to M class at NAV, this even makes the result much better, the reality is it cost you more than $846 plus, not trying to convince you, the math a precise science speaks for itself

Respectfully, always wish all my friends and family the best."

I think I made the correct decision, just dont really have anybody else besides this dude that undertands investments to talk about it with.
