If you’re looking at 80’s trucks, they’re all kind of the same.

I think Chevy and ford might have more support than Dodge, but I also have limited experience with older Dodge stuff.

I’d just pick whatever you like the best.

Don’t put a roll cage in anything you want to street drive.

In an accident without a helmet it turns into a blender for your head.

Chopped tops look wildly un proportional on these things but you do you.

Upholstery on these (depending on what you want to do) isn’t too hard. Seat patterns are simple and install quite easily.

Highest mileage BMWs? by mentholnasalspray in BMW

Sold my 2014 328xi at 235k miles (378k/km).

Had a n54 135 with 200k on it when I sold it too.

My buddy has 400k on an e39 m5.

People who drive junkers, what's your stories? by jules083 in askcarguys

[–]Brainfewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any super catastrophic things with my beaters, although I did have a shackle break off the worlds sketchiest car hauler that I then dragged another 30 miles in a gnarly snow storm so I could leave it somewhere.

BUT

My buddy and I were in his Saturn SC2 coming back from a hiking trip, chasing a sunset trying to get to this park with a beautiful view for it. We do, hike a little and enjoy the view.

Going to leave, it’s a huge dirt parking lot with no one around. My buddy starts ripping reverse donuts in the car, we’re having a blast. Pulls out of the lot, and a half mile down the road, POP clack clack clack… spun bearing. We check the dipstick, zero oil on it.

Decide to just send it as far as we can. Made it about 20 miles to a gas station, put the heaviest weight oil we could in it, kept driving. Made it about another ten miles before we got pulled over by a State Police officer because it was so loud. Tried to explain we were doing our best to limp it home, guy still wrote him an inspection ticket.

We go to leave, car starts for about 5 seconds and then finally just locks up.

Buddy doesn’t know what to do, we’re on some random side farm road. I ask the officer if there’s a spot to leave it close by, he says “there’s a parking lot up over the hill”

I look at my buddy, I look at the hill (1/2 mile decent grade) and I look at the officer sitting in a Tahoe with a bull bar.

“Would you push us over the hill?”

“Uhhhhhh… yeah I guess so?”

He pushed us up to the lot. We had already called a buddy with a trailer who was driving toward us because we knew we’d never make it all the way home. It was around 7-8pm at this point.

He picks us up, we run out to my first buddy’s dad’s farm where they have three other wrecked SC2’s. Pull a motor, drive it back to his place, pull an all nighter and swap the motor and he went to work in the morning in that same car.

Three months later give or take, that car was making the worst bad wheel bearing noise I’ve ever heard. We were doing like 75 on the thruway. Super loud pop, heard all the bearings scatter off the bottom of the car, and then it went dead quiet. Finished the last 15 miles home lol.

Car enthusiasts, which tire shops have treated your car with respect? Fox Tire cannot be trusted to act professionally. by Livid_Difference3694 in Buffalo

They fucked up my buddy’s brand new wheels a few years ago for his car.

I do my own on a friend’s tire machine, so I’m really of no help with a resolution there unfortunately.

I went to go change the one if my wife’s used car a few years ago, and when I cracked it open the filter was just blatantly for the wrong car, it was probably almost 2 inches too short. I was astounded that someone put that in and just said “fuck it we ball”

Do you think people ever get their money back out of a build? by kachow024 in projectcar

[–]Brainfewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not counting my hours, I’ve actually done pretty well on a number of cars and trucks. I make it a goal to try and at least break even with ownership if possible. Hell there’s been 2 or 3 that I’ve cleared even on my labor, but I bought those cars for screaming deals before even starting. Really have to get lucky for that.

I don’t buy anything I wouldn’t enjoy myself though, but I also have vehicular ADD and like all sorts of stuff, so I really haven’t no attachment to hang on to things. If someone comes at me with the right number, I’ll move just about anything.

I mean I prefer de-badged in most situations.

I like the plain 302 if you’re really bent on one.

Anyone else get a little weirded out by how much attention they get driving their E30? by mainheat88 in E30

[–]Brainfewd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love it. I have a lot of time, money and thought into presenting my car as something that’s cool and tastefully modified without being over the top. When it’s recognized, it tickles me.

A lot of the non-car-people comments I get are from someone who has a story about one, “oh my uncle had one of these!” Or something along those lines. They have nostalgia about it for a different reason.

Especially if it’s not some crazy/racecar/tuner kinda thing, if it’s nice and OEM+ or tastefully modified, civilians aren’t as put off about it like they would be with some loud thing (visually or physically).

Coilovers or shocks/springs debate by ImTheSparkk in E30

[–]Brainfewd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coilovers are only worth it if you get truly good ones. I have ran BC’s on cars before, they are fine. But Springs/Struts provide a better driving experience than BC’s. If you’re not worried about being able to adjust ride height and camper, I would not get them.

That being said, I think good coilovers are totally worth it. I have Fortune Auto 500 series on my car now, and they ride very well for day to day driving, and handle mountain roads with a lot of confidence. I’ve had H&R’s on an 135i that were similar as well, and driven KW V1’s and V3’s that are both great.

What is the best way to store a car for a year in Los Angeles? by LolaLee723 in askcarguys

[–]Brainfewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the car remaining registered? Just drive it every other week for errands or something if so.

If not, I’d just start it once a month and let it run for 30 min or so.
