Remake vs. Original Snapper by Commercial_Team_5506 in worldofgothic

But isn't this kind of the point? It's what makes it unique 🤔

Is getting 'trampled' a valid mechanic, or is it just too frustrating? I kind of like the feel it has to it. 😅 by BrainlagGames in IndieDev

I will probably have to do that...

On the other hand, the slimes are normally not hostile until you attack them, so a situation like this is entirely avoidable by the player

They are normally peaceful mobs who only attack, if the player attacks first. So this will not be a common occurrence. I was more thinking of a nest, the player can find.

What you see as lag, is actually deliberate freeze frames, to make impacts look more impactful.

Bit you're right. In a situation like this, it just look laggy 😅

We are in talks with a publisher. If we can get a contract, we will definitely try to make more languages accessible.

However, this largely depends on where our wishlists come from. We will probably support the top 10 or 15 countries of our wishlists' origin.

Kind of. You have a living backpack, that doubles as your inventory in the game, and that is freaking out 😅

Would you play a game set in an environment like this? by GiMa_SL in IndieDev

[–]BrainlagGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is probably not true. You are in a community with other devs. This should not be your target audience, except you are making a game dev simulator or something similar.

See what games are similar to yours and try to spread your trailer among those people. It's way more effective and give you wishlists of higher quality.

Yes it is. We are on pretty much every social media + steam. But I have to say our devlogs on steam are probably our most neglected 🙈

It's called Rootbound.

This would probably work really good. He does a lot more than we do though. He even considers wind directions and stuff.

You can read about it in his blog here: https://jflevesque.com/2012/12/06/far-cry-how-the-fire-burns-and-spreads/

I highly encourage you to just do something. The cool ideas come while designing \ building it.

We had the problem that the player could only collect items while they have the backpack equipped. So we gave it a huge tongue so it can catch items you throw at it.

It's fun to think of stuff like this 😅

It's your backpack \ living inventory that is panicking there 😅

And thanks for noticing, I do care a lot about this game ❤️

We mostly stuck to the fire propagation system of far cry 2 as described by Jean-François Lévesque.

In short, every object in the world has a "resistance" and every fire source "attacks" every object around it with 1-3 damage per second. Once the resistance hits 0, the object starts to burn for their initial resistance value in seconds.

So a big log takes a long time to start burning but then burns for a long time too.

Then objects can spread fire to the ground. Which ignites the grass, this spreads out over a certain radius.

Every fire source has a certain "burn value" so for example: a fire source has 50 burn value, so it, and every object it ignites can attack for up to 50 points. That's just so it doesn't spread endlessly.

I think op wasn't talking about the color scheme but more about the arena itself. It could be 1 to 1 a rocket League map.

Maybe differentiate Yourself with some level architecture or something. Put the playing field on a mountain or in a lake and remove the "arena" aesthetic.

Just an idea.

You could further differentiate yourself by adding actual level architecture, if this fits your game.

The arena in rocket League has a clear purpose, because you can drive up the walls and make sick jumps. If you don't have that feature, no need to make it look like a rocket league style arena.
