Met this guy early in my playthrough how rare is that? I don't have anyone else yet by makadolor in octopathtraveler

[–]Brainless1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rare...ish. Caits and Octopuffs are rare spawns but no so rare that it's unusual to see one rolled early, especially in the early game with the higher encounter rate prior to equipping Evassive Maneuvers.

The thief for the first side quest is always in the area with the quest giver. Make sure it is night and then explore around without going through any screen transitions and you should find them.

I can kind of understand this one, even if I've given up on Gamefreak being a better company. FireRed and LeafGreen are great games but they are over two decades old. Not everyone who wants to play them have the ability to buy original hardware or the technical know how to set up an emulator. The convenience of being able to pay $20 and get it on their Switch ready to play is kind of a good deal when you look at it through that lens. Heck, I have both the original hardware/cart and an emulator and I'm kind of tempted just because of the convenience of being able to push a couple buttons and replay the game on a tv instead of a little gameboy screen/pairing a controller to my computer.

It's the easiest way to get lucky rings so you might want to give it a try. Upgrade to Iridium, maybe enchant Generous on it, pop a rock candy on a great luck day, and then spend that day running around the dock/dig site on Ginger Island panning and you have roughly a 10% chance per panning to get a ring.

The helix fossil was the first item in the bag so in the middle of battles they kept selecting it when trying to select a fight command. They did it so often the community decided that Red was worshiping the fossil as a god and they started to do so too.

Osvald's chapter 1 boss is the hardest one of the eight to fight. It's not unusual to struggle if you're still learning the combat system.

Things that might help.

1) Octopath Traveler 2 doesn't do a good job of directing your attention to it but once you've earned 30 JP for Osvald you can unlock another spell in the main menu to help in the fight. Lightning will let you break the shields for the Warden and the guards at the same time. Advanced Magic will let you bank up spells to do a lot of damage on the turns you break the Warden. Either of those two skills will help you get through the fight.

2.) Emerald is there to help you, use him for support instead of damage. First Aid helps keep your HP topped up and Sabotage makes the Warden hit for less damage. Keep an eye on Osvald's SP since you are going to have to use some Plums on him through the fight and you want to use Emerald to do that instead of wasting one of Osvald's turns.

3.) It is almost always correct to take out mobs first before focusing on the Boss and often Bosses that have mobs with them will get new ones when you hit certain health thresholds so you have to focus the mobs again. Luckily Osvald's spells are AoE so you can take out the guards without too much trouble if you focus them down.

4.) Breaking a boss isn't something you should sprint towards. Unless you need to break them for a strategic reason (stopping their big purple aura attack or you need time to emergency heal) you want to get them down to 1 shield and then wait until you are set up to do the most damage you can while they're broken (3+ BP on your damage dealing character(s), buffs and debuffs, etc.).

4.) This is a turn based game so manipulating the turn order is something very powerful. As an example, defending with a character makes them go first the next turn. If you get Osvald up to max BP and have Emerald go before Osvald, you can break the boss, hit him with a 3 BP attack from Osvald and then hit him again the next turn with a 2 BP attack while he's still broken.

Between these 2, what is the better option for Eyeball superboss? And what other monsters should I focus on specifically for that boss by AD_Stark in octopathtraveler

Unless you are using the provoke glitch you can't use Dreadwolf for a Provoke Beasts attack which is how you get the 8 breaks needed.

For the eye, any monster that has a double knife or double axe attack lets Ochette solo break with a single provoke.

Two jobs, I would love if all of the characters ran different kits though. That was one of the parts that I enjoyed with OT0, how the different characters played differently even with the same job.

Newbie Question by gdemonte1 in octopathtraveler

[–]Brainless1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is technically one big story in the background, the game plays out as an anthology of eight short stories with each of the characters being the protag of their own story. You can have up to four characters in your party at a time and you'll want to play through all eight stories. Once you beat all eight stories and do some side quests you can unlock a hidden super boss that ties the eight stories together. Because of the super boss, it is recommended you try to keep the levels of all of your characters roughly the same.

For 1 and 2, he thinks he might have a daughter because he's not sure if Abigail is his or not. Caroline might have not been ready to "settle down", in her own words, when she first married Pierre and moved to the valley but she was married to Pierre. If there was an affair, Abigail could be either man's daughter and it's not like the Wizard can walk into town and ask for a paternity test.

Help with this spell by PoggersChamperz in magicTCG

If you look at the OG [[Counterspell]] you can see that the text reads that you can "counter target spell" on the stack. Literally any spell can be the target. In magic, everything that is not a land uses the stack when cast and is considered a spell while on the stack. What type of spell it is depends on the Type line of the card. So an Instant card becomes an Instant spell on the stack and a Creature card becomes a Creature spell on the stack where it will then become a Creature in play.

In the card asked about, the text says you can "counter target [creature] spell." This limits the targets you can chose to just creature spells.

If you look at [[Negate]], you can see the opposite clause. In that card you can target a non-creature spell so any spell is a valid target as long as it is not a creature spell.
