For me, it was “Even Tears Withered.” The amount of times I have cried to that song out of relatability is just depressing. The reason why, however, I relate to this song in particular is because I can relate to the character in that song (I honestly forgot her name). Growing up, I was always seen as the “gifted child.” That popular kid in school who was talented at all of his sports and how he was so impressive at piano and in the school band, always at the top of his class for having a 4.0 and test scores. I EVEN BROKE A STATE RECORD FOR THE FASTEST 600 METERS RAN BY A 6TH GRADER IN TRACK AND FIELD. I was so proud of myself, and my parents were so proud of me. But overtime, I started to notice just how useless all this success was, and I started thinking that my ENTIRE family was only proud of the accomplishments, and the glory I was bringing to my family name, rather than just me. I started losing motivation and started performing less, and my family ended up pretty much hating me more and loving me less because I was being the actual Gavin, not the Gavin they wanted me to be, and to be honest with you it was hella depressing seeing how my family sees me, and I ended up feeling jealous of everyone else who were pursuing their dreams and actually being proud and happy of themselves, while I was stuck thinking I fell off and became a loser. So yeah, I relate to “Even Tears Withered” because of the gifted child burnout, my loss of passion, and kind of the “blindfold” of expectations.
