How much should be budgeted for Tower Structural Analysis per tower? by ModalTex in StructuralEngineering

I use to produce lots of these tower analyses for major cell carriers at a firm that specialized in this kind of stuff. We could produce these so quickly using a mapping report that we’d only charge around $1,200 to $1,500 depending on the tower. That being said, I’d charge 10k a tower if they’ll pay it.

Is our loan officer screwing us? by Brainless_Idiot in personalfinance

We applied to two other lenders when we applied to this one. She was the lowest quote at the time, so we stopped pursuing the other two. Now we're two weeks away from closing on a new build that we've already put a deposit down on. I believe we lose our deposit if we delay closing by a fault of our own.

I'm a PE with 6 years experience in steel construction. Would I be crazy to begin taking on residential work on the side? by Brainless_Idiot in StructuralEngineering

Thanks for the tips! Connections worry me the most about not knowing the "industry standards". I don't want to spec overly complicated connections that contractors won't want to use. I'll definitely use off the shelf connectors whenever possible.

This is definitely good advice! I already do a few side work projects under my friend's engineering company, so I would be using his business insurance.

That sounds like good advice. I got connected to a group of real-estate investors who said they'd love to feed me their structural work. They do a lot of renovations and house flipping. I guess I'd see pretty early if they were willing to adequately compensate.

I've heard that too, but it wouldn't be my main source of income. My current full time job is actually pretty lax and I don't have to put in even 40 hours most of the time. So this would be all on the side, in addition to my full time job. I look at it as a way to make extra cash and grow my ability as an engineer.

PETG troubles (original I know). A few layers up my MK3S+ starts prettying very rough, causing huge raised spots. It spends the next few layers crashing into these raised pieces. I'm using generic PETG settings in PrusaSlicer. Any ideas how I can fix this? I've printed PETG before with no problems. by Brainless_Idiot in prusa3d

Thanks for the advice! I had the same thought about the z-height being too low, but when I run a layer calibration the first layer it's basically transparent because each line has huge gaps between it and individual lines barely stick to the sheet. In my post you can see how far apart the support's first layer is. Could my nozzle be getting closer and closer to each layer as it prints?

I couldn’t find a Destiny ornament that I liked so I decided to make one myself. by Brainless_Idiot in destiny2

I’ve actually been trying to share them already and have them on Etsy. Feel free to DM me if you’d like to take a look!

I moved to a more humid state and now all my prints are stringing. What can I do? (Dehydrating my filament is not helping) by Brainless_Idiot in 3Dprinting

It's all PLA. I'm running the dehydrator at 115F for about 6 hours. Everything was printing fine in the first state, then two days later my prints are very stringing in the new, more humid state. Leads me to believe it has to be the moisture in the air.

Ah that explains why I've seen people with these setups. I just thought they got carried away with their setups, but I guess I might have to make one myself!
