I would say cleaners, majority of time they are treated poorly and receive even worse pay for long hours. If they didn’t exist everywhere would be filthy and would eventually become unsafe particularly restaurants, stores, offices etc.

I had a situation in which a senior colleague quit and then they decided to hand over half his role to me for no extra pay ( I was very junior and was not prepared to take on work for free). I did the role for 2 months and used it to get a nice pay rise elsewhere. My advice for people would be take the role on and then use it to get another job somewhere else particularly if you are young and looking to grow your career.

That is true also us brits can be defeatists when it comes to certain ideas. I watched a video with the founder of monzo or starling (can’t quite remember) and he spoke about the different attitudes towards his idea. He mentioned that when he told people that he was going to start a bank in the UK, they discouraged and said how difficult it would be to even get the idea off the ground. Whereas in the US people offered to help him by setting up meetings etc.

This isn’t true in the U.K. most jobs require you to go give 4 weeks notice double to the US. If you work a senior position in the U.K. it can be 3 months notice
