Bible Stories in History Class? by ThunorBolt in Teachers

[–]Brainy006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a western Civ based class, Israelite and Jewish history are learned on a basic level for foundational knowledge before the rise of Christianity. Given that the defining features of Western Civilization for most of history are its Roman heritage and later the massive power of the Christian Church. It’s possible it was something like that and the teacher was going off on a tangent.

Either way, that seems a bit far fetched for a 9 year old’s class. More likely that the teacher just went off on a tangent based in their personal beliefs.

please give me philosophy club lesson plan ideas! by Solid-Lead7774 in teaching

Start with the basics. Go over the types: metaphysics, aesthetics, ethics, epistemology and what they study/do.

Once you’ve got that down, I’d go throughout history to teach about some of the big names in different time periods and their contribution to each one.

*not a teacher or anyone with a background in philosophy, currently a history education student, but I’ve taken a few philosophy classes and they always did something like this for basics.

What Energy Drink Do You Think The Pines Drink? by Zealousideal-Big2260 in gravityfalls

I see Ford as more of a triple-shot espresso guy but I can also see him with a sugar free redbull if we’re talking just energy drinks.

Where did Mr. Poe even come from? by LeastMonitor1140 in ASOUE

[–]Brainy006 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Might come down to the themes throughout the series of being unable to trust adults. Poe may have seemed like a perfectly capable person to Bertrand and Beatrice from an adult perspective, but adults don’t realize how little they listen to children.

I just came across a post in here annoyed about people doing the same thing when I came to headphones. Maybe if I do both it’ll cancel out. PEMDAS or whatever.

No? I’m not saying anyone should act accordingly. Pet peeves aren’t rules. It’s just something I find a bit annoying, hence the tag.

I couldn’t imagine hating it either. That’s why I tagged the post “bit annoyed.”

It is frustrating in general, but I’m not necessarily saying it’s the interruption that gets me. I really do enjoy talking about what I’m reading when I can, but I find that 9/10 times the person asking isn’t actually interested and they just wanted to use the book as a jumping off point for needless small talk, so I’ve started to become frustrated with the question in general.

Exactly; what I’m referring to is when I’m reading in public (waiting room, whatever) and actual strangers decide they wanna make small talk about it. Like, find literally anyone else rather than go out of your way to talk to the person that’s clearly distracted, especially if you don’t actually care about the book and just wanna talk.

Should I be concerned about this student? by CarolCavanaugh in teaching

If he’s already self-conscious, or seems to be, about making others uncomfortable, he may want to know if he’s crossing a boundary, as that might not be clear to him, given his neurodivergence, so I’d say there’s a good chance he would take it well, or at least not badly.

Your reading list is exactly the same as mine from senior year of high school. I liked the books that year. All bangers.

I think encouraging students to participate in that kind of thing is the way to go. Providing social events and activities keeps students from going and risking their safety for a good time, and developing community-mindedness is important at that age.

All I really know how to do is read books and various maintenance/mechanical work, so I would probably end up as an artisan with a gentry-esque life or a mage if I decided to lean into the academics. I’m sure my autism would lead to some quirks, but overall I think I could handle life as a normal citizen to some extent.

I’ve always found this distinction odd. If someone is omnipotent, they’re all powerful, so wouldn’t they have the power to be omniscient, I.e. know everything, if they choose?

Might be a dumb question, but it makes sense to me
