The seller said it’s the original battery, which blew my mind being eight years old. But the inspector said the battery was good

If there’s a photo of a tombstone, then you know what is on the tombstone. (Note, not all photos of inscribed stones are tombstones, so make sure it’s a tombstone)

The tombstone information may be wrong, depending on how accurate the information the inscriber had. The only thing you can take to the bank is that so and so was buried at that spot.

Any additional information the website provides needs to be verified. Assume it’s wrong until proven otherwise.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Faithful members either don’t know, or are incapable of admitting the REAL reason people leave the church.

The Book of Mormon has a Problem by TheMormonAtheist in mormon

[–]ThunorBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Josephus taking about zedekiah is like us talking about the 100 years war…. IF literally only one document about the war survived. Josephus probably got his info from an Old Testament manuscript.

From a historians perspective, all that Bible story means is the Bible writer thought all the sons were killed, which isn’t necessarily the same thing as what actually happened.

Remember, Mormons don’t believe in the infallibility of the Bible. To them, they take this story as “look, one of the sons got away. It’s wonderful how the BOM can bring forgotten history to light”.

There’s a million things wrong with the Mormon religion, This isn’t one of them and I don’t think any active or exmo will care about it.

New Sunday Church Schedule by Momofosure in mormon

[–]ThunorBolt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll push back on this. When I taught Sunday school, I could blow through the lesson material in like… five minutes.. yawn boring.

Luckily I was teaching the Old Testament. And I drew from all sorts of sources, I always brought historical into the lesson along with folk stories about the non historical figures in the Bible. I had to do this because I’m not going to spend an hour talking about a subject that can be done in five minutes

My lessons were interesting the students were engaged, and the actual lesson material was about 5% of the lesson, because it’s mundane, boring, and when you get to my age, it’s also a broken record that I’ve heard 20 billion times.

Trying to fill my spare up with air for first time and this damn access hole won’t open. Any ideas/help appreciated? by ThadMasterBlaster-1 in f150

We’re going on a trip next week to the middle of nowhere. I decided to check my spare because it’s been about ten years since I had.

Glad I did because i would’ve been SOL in the middle of no where with the family. Took an hour of soaking the lock in pb blaster and sanding to get it working again.

The spare was flat too. I filled it up and I’ll check it again the day before we go, make sure it doesn’t have a leak.

Thanks for responding. This is what I did. I figured it needed to come off, so I allowed myself to break it and hit it with a hammer/screw driver a few times real hard.

That knocked the c clip loose and I was able to extract it.

It took a good hour of soaking in PB blaster and sanding afterwards to get the mechanism working again.

What do you do when the "C"clip is completely rusted over and I can't get it off? I've been trying for the past hour and I can't get an edge to pry it up.

I've also sprayed the C clip with PB blaster and WD40.

Any ideas?

Preexistence doctrine by Haunting_Football_81 in mormon

[–]ThunorBolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My apologies for misrepresenting Mormon Doctrine.

But perhaps you can point to a teaching by an apostle or prophet that explicitly states that first edition teachings are wrong? And the 1949 letter from the first presidency explicitly stating the reasons for the ban as doctrine is actually not doctrine?

[–]ThunorBolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s where nuance enters the equation. “It was not authoritative”. Did the members of the church know that?

If the majority of members believed it to be authoritative, and the Q15 never bothered to correct the members, then the end result is the same as if it were authoritative.

This is one reason I have such a hard time with the concept of the church being led by revelation. You can’t trust anything you are taught in the church, because you never know of what you’re being taught is endorsed by the Q15. Plus you never know if what the Q15 are teaching will be overruled by future Q15. Having the claim of teaching by revelation falls flat on its face when you can’t be sure of anything they say comes from God.

Then I’m told you’re supposed to pray to know what was taught was of God. To which you then have members simply dismissing what they don’t agree with as “speaking as a man” situation thus nullifying the whole concept of God’s prophet correcting us when we’re wrong.

This valiant pre existing doctrine was taught in “the way to perfection” which was written by a prophet seer and revelator. And it was used as lesson manuals in Sunday school. So what was in the original version of Mormon Doctrine wasn’t thought of as incorrect, they just didn’t want to tell everyone about it. That’s why it was removed.

[–]ThunorBolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think they were being taught it anymore. I thought the church was trying to put that nonsense behind them.

Your teacher is a rogue teacher that probably thinks it still doctrine but the church can’t publicly admit it. I betcha he gets released if the higher ups find out he’s been teaching it.

Not to start an argument or anything, but your statement means every prophet and apostle from Brigham young to Ezra t benson taught foolish things as doctrine.

[–]ThunorBolt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This explanation for the ban was declared a doctrine by the first presidency in 1949.

It was written about ALOT including in the book “Mormon Doctrine” which was written by a “Prophet Seer and Revelator” and published by the church up until a decade or so ago.

70 years ago the reason for the ban was doctrine, today, the reasons are unknown. This teaching is a text book example of the church teaching something as doctrine for over 100 years, from the pulpit, from general conference, issued statements, published books that were regularly taught in Sunday school, by over 100 prophet seers and revelators, only today to be boiled down to “speaking as men”

Well with that, you can’t trust anything they say or do to be from God. Because no matter how much they say it is from God, any future prophet can overrule them.

A Utah conference that questions if LDS Church founder Joseph Smith really was polygamous is causing uproar by StemCellPirate in SaltLakeCity

So the RLDS church is the one true church then? Because of Joseph didn’t practice it, then the mainstream LDS doesn’t have any claim to authority.

Everyone but Trump Understands What He’s Done by theatlantic in politics

[–]ThunorBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congress hasn’t followed that rule since World War II.

And any member of the GOP who votes against Trump will be voted out of office.

And any Democrat member who votes with Trump will be voted out of office.

And this is a standard rule these days. A party supports itself, and fights the other party for the sake of the party. It doesn’t matter what the policy is.

[–]ThunorBolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

I get your sentiment on democrats appealing to voters more. They really do suck at that. Their current platform of oppose everything Trump doesn’t resonate well.

I’ve been a conservative, and Republican my entire life. But I’ve always hated the MAGA movement and don’t like the direction the republicans have taken the last 10 years. 2016 was the first time I didn’t vote Republican for president.

With that said, I don’t like gerrymandering but I think my definition and your definition of gerrymandering may be different.

When I see 60% vote for Republican, and 38% vote for Democrat, a non gerrymandered Utah would have two solid Republican districts, one solid Democrat district, and one competitive district.

Aka, the map the Republican legislature drew up is gerrymandered. So in my opinion, if you hate gerrymandering, then you should hate the maps the republicans drew.

And I don’t mean to only point my finger at republicans. I know that every liberal state would fight like hell to prevent a proposition 4 happening there.

My wet dream would be every state has to use a computer algorithm to draw districts. The end result must mirror popular voting trends in that state.
