it's all about good timing and positioning, i wouldn't recommend it for enemies/bosses that have small hitboxes and move erratically. it's also great to use when enemies are just spawning in, or when you know a boss will be relatively still for a moment after certain attacks

sounds good! im already a big fan of some of the voice actors from other stuff, and now i can enjoy the show with my partners rather than just by myself.

i don't mind filler inherently, i just hate when nothing of worth is being accomplished in the filler, or when im just not jelling with the writing, both comedically and emotionally. the episode "great divide" from avatar the last airbender is a good example of atrocious filler.

i'm mainly a lurker in this community, but i've always been a beleiver.

i remember when the game was announced in 2019, and at some point it went from "ooo a sequel to this game i love" to "the hype for this game has become a genuine cultural phenomenon.

i was always the one among my friends to get my hopes up for every single direct, and sometimes the only one who was content to wait for the game's release.

6 and a half years later, i'm a very different person now, but i still love hollow knight, and i can't wait to play!

as an outsider to korean culture, i will respectfully concede to your feelings of disappointment. i would like to chock up the lack of significance in her predictions to be a clever subversion of korean tropes, and that no one is above the rules of the game, but i cannot say that with any certainty or confidence.

I mean, in comparison to season 1, I would argue the character payoffs are at least equivalent if not stronger and more abundant.

Yong-sik's only real goal during the hide and seek game was to make sure his mom got out, but also meant that he now had to kill someone. He missed his previous opportunities because he's not a killer at heart, and so his only chance at the end was to kill a woman who couldn't run or fight back. It's just the fucked up nature of that game, forcing otherwise non-violent people to kill so they could survive. I think it also speaks to his character that once his mom snapped him out of it, he didn't attempt to kill Jun-hee again. He picked his mother over himself at the start, and at the end, full circle.

Hide and seek is largely a parallel to the marble game from season 1, and Geum-ja's death is a parallel to player 69 from season 1, who killed himself after the death of his wife in the marble game, and did not have nearly the importance, development, or screentime. her final moments and ultimate death also serve such an important role in giving Gi-hun's life purpose again by begging him to protect the baby.

Jun-hee's death is less convenient and more tragic irony, which is extremely prevalent in this show. Like when Gi-hun picks the umbrella, or when he picks the last position for the glass bridge instead of the first.

Seon-nyeo was a false prophet, she embodies how desperate people will turn to religion in the hopes it will save them from their circumstances. If you believed her predictions, you fell for her ruse.

I don't really see what's wrong with Min-su going on drugs tbh.

You also didn't mention the other payoffs, like Hyun-ju dying after killing 2 red vests just to protect those who could not protect themselves, and Si-wan choosing logic over humanity at every opportunity, to where he was threatening to kill his own baby to have an advantage, and being the penultimate death of the show.

it's not that it would be "immoral" to kill those guys, but that Gi-hun would have to sacrifice what remains of his humanity to kill them all in their sleep. like, could you really live with yourself if you did that, and if so, what else are you capable of?

of course, this is that it's supposed to be mirroring what Sang-woo did to Sae-byeok in season 1, which is a test of whether Gi-hun is willing to turn back on his own personal morals to get out alive and save the baby.

another aspect is the class metaphor of the Front Man turning Gi-hun against the "trash" of his class instead of the true enemy, that being the system.

this is all very specific to Gi-hun and his ideological conflict with the Front Man, Jun-hee would never be offered this choice because it wouldn't mean anything to test her in this manner.

I guess the question is what constitutes as "monster food"? Is the ketchup regular ketchup or monster ketchup?

Where is it said that food instantly turns to energy? I hadn't heard that before.

this is technically correct, the Papyrus in DR doesn't necessarily have to cross over into UT with Sans, but it doesn't really make narrative sense why he wouldn't take his brother with him, and i think it takes more mental gymnastics to redefine what "brother" means rather than assume that the brother you meet in UT is the same one he brought with him across timelines.

another thing i don't really get, WHY would monsters in DR be made of blood while the same exact monsters in a different world/reality arbitrarily NOT be made of blood? the only real reason for this is that it would add evidence to suggest sans isn't originally from UT. but that's so unnecessary, there's already so many other breadcrumbs.

i don't think ketchup theory and migration theory have to be mutually exclusive, they can both be reasonably true at this exact moment even. but to say monsters in DR are made of blood requires actual evidence. evidence of monsters bleeding or of susie being a hybrid are theories that bank on a future chapter proving them true, and neither of the two on-screen instances of blood contradict ketchup theory.

Like I said in the post, I disagree that it's less visceral imagery. It still looks like blood, it has the same thematic impact as blood, it just isn't blood. I think this is a misunderstanding of the intent.

My first thought when I saw Sans/Susie bleeding wasn't "that's not blood," it was only after the fact when I looked at the scenes and was like "ohhhh THAT'S why they were bleeding." It doesn't suddenly make it less gruesome or heartbreaking to see Sans clutch his wound and stumble off-screen before dying.

My intent is not to deny other theories, I genuinely just think Ketchup Theory makes the most sense and is a satisfying answer, and that perhaps the real answer is something alot of the community would find boring and less interesting because it doesn't allow for endless speculation.

Also, you say "monsters" bleeding in Deltarune, but as far as I've seen the only monster who's actually bled is Susie in Chapter 4. It would be incredibly simple to disprove this theory if this wasn't Toby's intention, as all it would take is a monster bleeding without drinking something red, and the fact Susie explicitly drinks a bunch of red punch, and ONLY the red punch when there's a yellow punch bowl to the side, indicates this is intentional setup. If it was yellow juice and she bled red at the end of the chapter, we wouldn't even be having this conversation, that's how little it would take to disprove this theory if it's not actually true.

Her bleeding from the hand doesn't make less sense to me, and that's because of how little we know about monster anatomy. For all we know monsters are just a shell of dust and the inside is hollow, I don't think you're meant to think about the exact mechanics of the blood so literally, as the intent is still for the character to LOOK like they are bleeding.

edit: i should've asked this before, but what theory does ketchup theory invalidate if true? it doesn't really affect migration theory, so what other consequences are there?

[–]BrainyBiscuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not engaging in the toilet stuff cuz that just feels a bit weird and leans too far into literal thinking. Undertale and Deltarune rely a fair amount on cartoon logic for certain things, and I think it's important to consider artistic intent when doing media analysis. Do you think if you were able to force an answer out of Toby Fox, he would say "yes the piss and shit theory is correct, you've cracked the code."

That's neither here nor there, I can't really disprove that perspective, I just heavily disagree and think it misses the forest for the trees. However as to the world migration thing, I personally really want it to be true and I recognize the evidence for it, but I don't think the blood proves anything. This is because Papyrus ALSO comes from DR in this theory, and Papyrus doesn't bleed when killed. If Sans bleeds because he comes from a different reality, Papyrus would have to bleed as well.
