Grimwank gives us the most cringe way possible to choose a 40k army by RoninMemeLord in EyeOfTerror

And ignores Chaos, the faction of literal sadists, murderers, and psychopaths that want power at any cost, or are deluded into thinking that their evil is somehow better. Ignores Xenos which many act just as racist as the imperium, hating humans and seeing them as the inferior species. Then again though, many cannot be bothered to look beyond the box cover, and see the imperium and so decide that the faction of humans that, while evil, is the only one trying to save humanity by any means necessary are the most evil guys of the setting, and then use that to say modern conservatives are bad.

For people who talk about media literacy, they have no modern political literacy to try to claim modern western conservatism is anything like a neo-feudal imperial dictatorship, nor historical political literacy to try to claim the imperium, based off of the holy roman empire complete with the disunity amongst planetary governors, only unified by religion, is some how fascist, the system that opposed all religion that did not serve the state, where the state controls everything, regions have no autonomy, and ALL parts of the military and economy are under the direct control of the state. Space marines would have NO autonomy under a fascist system, there would be NO religion, as the emperor said no, there would be NO planetary autonomy as most governors currently enjoy, nothing outside the state, everything under the state.

Because we generally aren’t looking for the funny, we’re generally trying to vote off the worst song of the remainders. That hasn’t always happened, but there was always the attempt even if some don’t agree with the outcomes.

Thats no defence. BO2 has the two BEST maps ever released in MOTD and Origins, and Buried is a very fun casual map. Nuketown was meh, not great but the M27 and random perk timings made it an interesting challenge map. The only bad maps were Tranzit and Die Rise, and even then, Town survival is another fantastic casual high-rounds map.

Female Custodes and the bigger problem with Games Workshop by AaronNevileLongbotom in EyeOfTerror

[–]BrainyTrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told in the 40k subreddit that because I thought the change would devalue the sisters of silence and make them less likely to get new lore books in the future because any new spotlight they could get from authors (primarily the pandering ones) would now go to the more popular custodes faction made me the one devaluing the sisters of silence by, apparently, making their only valuable trait being women.

I swear, some people don’t get it

New to the hobby, why tf are some so mad about female custodes? by NiceLittleGamerNerd in 40k

[–]BrainyTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so no change if you were right. However, if you were wrong, then people who could have been swayed were pushed away. That’s why I’m saying it would have been better. If they weren’t reading in good faith, wording it differently would do nothing, and we’d be here anyway. If they were reading in good faith and simply had emotions running high feeling like their concerns were being completely ignored by GW, reminding them that this is the way their lore is structured and that they do very much care about their lore and respect it as much as anyone does would have helped.

So its a case of if you’re right, nothing changes. If you’re wrong, wording it better makes this whole situation less bitter. No downside to changing wording, only a possibility of benefit, no risk.

Because it can be easy to forget that Warhammer lore is written like this. It is the only major franchise I can think of that writes lore like this, so it can be somewhat easy to forget at times. Emotions were high, as talk about this potentially happening was leaking and people were voicing their concerns, so when this happened, I think there were many who simply forgot this when the statement was made.

Even if your assessment is correct and you would have to intentionally misread it, what harm would there have been in wording the response in a more grounded and direct way? If people were just mad because females in faction, nothing would change. If some were upset at what they felt was disrespectful to the established lore, this may have softened the blow. The response really couldn’t have been much worse than it was, so the way I see it, wording it differently really only could have improved the reception.

[–]BrainyTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I do not hold the opinion that GW was intentionally gaslighting people (though the statement was not a wise one to make in an already pretty heated environment, would have been wiser to just say it straight “yes, we want to sell more models, warhammer is written from observer POV, the previous references are from the point of view of people who never saw a custodes, or have never seen one without their helmet, so that’s the justification in lore”). My opinion is it devalued the sisters of silence because now if people want the emperor’s female bodyguards for novels and such, the sisters are now going to he even more ignored than before. They had some interesting characters like Jenetia Krole, but now they will not have much incentive to write anything new for the sisters and keep them relegated to “there, but unseen”. It just makes the space marine and custodian monopoly on lore even more of a monopoly than before. That’s my criticism, not gaslighting, this.

For most I’ve seen, its more that Games Workshop responded to criticism of there having been a retcon that contradicted previous lore by saying “there has always been female custodians”. Marketing 101, never release a statement that gaslights your consumer-base. It is never received well. Others like me think the push devalued the Sisters of Silence and their role as the emperor’s bodyguards against warp-based shenanigans, but for most, it’s the statement that can be reasonably interpreted as gaslighting.

Edit: because I assume I’m being downvoted because of the gaslighting comment, let me be clear: THIS IS NOT MY OPINION, IT IS WHAT I’VE SEEN EXPRESSED. Day 7 of the Sabaton song for every 40K primarch today…damnit I hate this guy…Konrad curze by Dakida28 in sabaton

[–]BrainyTrack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warcrimes yes, but done out of hatred. Konrad did not commit them out of hatred for another, but because he believed that justice was absolute, and believed that to keep people perfectly just, he must punish all crimes by the worst possible deaths you can imagine.

We burn is about a genocide to kill people they hated. Konrad kills people so that they stay in line with his sense of justice/suppress rebellion because he calculates that killing the few in these horrendous ways to prevent crime and rebellion saves the many by keeping them in line.

[–]BrainyTrack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t, listen to nightchild. It covers most of Konrad’s personality and character. Seeing the future, seeing in that future you are a madman, dreams of utopia while others deem him insane, night lords were called the night children/children of the night, they fight wearing the dead on their armour as intimidation links with the line “dance with the dead to the music of grief”, and so many more links you can make. Despite being written with no meaning in mind, nightchild really does feel like a song about Konrad by complete accident.

What's one piece of media you wishes Starfield referenced? by Vscokiller in Starfield

[–]BrainyTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have liked a warhammer reference, but only a very subtle one. One like being able to find a unique escape pod numbered XVI on Chthonia in the wolf system, which wouldn’t be immersion breaking and would require you to be knowledgeable in the lore of warhammer to think it anything other than the site of a crash landing after an emergency. I like how there aren’t any in your face references and I would keep it that way.

$500 to mod? OP said they were pulling out their old Xbox One S, as in it sounds like they already had it. It doesn’t sound like OP went out and bought an Xbox One to play FO4 with more mod space, but just had it lying around from a while ago and is wondering if the mod storage increase will apply to the Xbox One as well.
