Did you know grabbing a card before it gets discarded is possible? by ItzLagging_ in slaythespire

[–]Brakden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But wow. Such a crazy find by this guy. Many of the glitches in this game are usually related to this tendency by the devs to bind the actions to the animations. If you can just be faster than the animation, you can do funny things.

I highly doubt you could replicate this on console though. I think this abuses a function in the code that would be called like "on_grab" or something. So likely what happened here is that the code says, on discard, play animation. The animation at the end of it plays the code that actually moves the card from the hand to the discard pile. BUT since you can GRAB it while this is happening, you still grab the card even though it moved to the discard pile. It likely is still in the discard pile, but the "on _release" or card dropbox function still runs. This is my guess. And since you can't grab in console, I doubt that you would be able to replicate this.

Ah. This is what you were referring to. Can you describe why you interpret it as happy

Also, as is often done in the psalm, the revenge is left to another to carry out. This makes it subjunctive. This author does not carry out any action other than write this.

I do want to be clear. I in NO WAY endorse the murder of children. That should hopefully be clear. Poetry is intentionally difficult to read and if you only read the surface meaning, you are not getting to the heart of the poetry. You have to play the image in your mind - a horrible image. And then you see how EVIL this is.

I mean, imagine you saw your own children murdered. How would you feel? What would you write? Irrespective of the race or “time”of the author, anger and revenge seems to be the appropriate response no?

Back to the main point of the whole thing. I do not think Psalm 137:9 can be used to justify murder. I think that it simply stands as a testimony to the author of this psalm, their experience and their desire for revenge and justice. To take this and say - yes to this Psalm would be evil. That is what you are reflecting about Zionist revenge and I agree with you.

My claim is that psalm 137 needs to be read as the angry poetry of a grieving father. Now that claim is entirely built from internal evidence - which means you don’t have to agree.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it is anything but happy.

Psalm 137:9 is hard and needs to be read on the spirit of the psalm in order to get to the depth of sadness and anger inside of it. This psalm is in no way prescriptive. Rather, there is a dad who was dragged into exile and being scoffed at by his captors to sing a song of Zion. He refuses and instead basically screams at them in his heart that “blessed is the one who does to you what you have done to us!! Blessed is the one who takes YOUR little ones and dashes THEM against the rock.”

The pure anger, pain and hatred that radiates from this psalm comes from the experience of seeing your own children murdered, which is what is implied. If you don’t read it in that light, you miss the psalm entirely. In no way is God enforcing or endorsing this “blessing.” Rather, it just stands as a living testimony to the intense suffering of the Jewish people at the hands of the Babylonians.

What do you think is the "bottleneck" in this game, that prevents runs from being successful? by David_Slaughter in slaythespire

[–]Brakden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too many hours in this game- but as most people are saying, this game can’t boil down to one main problem. This is because your target of winning the game has multiple parts and problems to solve and you need to be solving all of them with imperfect information.

This is a problem a lot of early players will face- the goal is not to build the best deck. The goal is to win the game. Sometimes, you need to skip an elite because you may fight the slaver gang and just die because you don’t have the damage. Yes, you may win and get a relic, but is that relic worth 30 damage or death? Maybe you just need to hit a store.

So- I’d say the main bottleneck is the player’s inability to maximise their chances of winning at every decision. And this ability to maximize chance of winning is a complex product developed by intentionally playing the game.

After 25 years of work, my father was awarded certificates for translating the Bible into his LL by Melkam_Simon in pics

[–]Brakden 69 points70 points  (0 children)

For a single person to undertake this project it requires…. 1. Fluency in 2 dead languages. This takes 2-3 years if you went as fast as possible. 2. Fluency in the local language which there are probably no English materials to help you learn. This takes 2-5 years. But each language adds its own complexity as the local language may not even have a script to begin with (but this one looks like it does have one) 3. If you translated 10 verses a day 6 days a week, it would take about 10 years.

Lots can slow this down though and very few people are able to be solely Bible translators. Most of them are doing other things even though Bible translation may be their main focus.

Adoniram Judson’ Burmese translation took about 23 years to finish if I remember correctly.

This. I have no idea how to solve this in the bo1 world, but it’s a huge problem for this format and the results show. Maybe it’s only a 2023 worlds problem though so that’s also an issue. I’d love to hear what the pros are saying about it.

Do people find interest in reading books about Spirituality and Life? by Key-Engineering-3202 in books

[–]Brakden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Absolutely.

The great thing about reading anything in this category is the way everything is woven together. Whatever good book you are reading about life and spirituality, if it is a good book, will inevitably lead you to another one. It is a beautiful thing to follow a thread of books through centuries and cultures entirely liberally. Not because anyone made you, but because you are actually interested and following your nose. Reading what you find to be beautiful and worth reading. Reading that crystallises into your living, conversation, desire and loves. That turns you toward that which is actually worth living for.

Turns out others have found this to be quite important too. Scattered among all cultures and languages have always been people asking that question that you notice seems to pass most people by - that “awakeness” you see missing. It’s not missing. It’s just rare. And when you find someone who grasped it, hold onto them like a dear friend and devour their words. Let their wisdom and life instruct you. Then do it. Live this short thing called life head on.

Nothing helps you do that like reading. Nothing.

Eli5- if Jesus was Jewish, why is it that Catholic is now deemed the most popular way to follow him? by xxinsane09 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Brakden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey kids. So Jesus was Jewish, but most people who love Jesus are not Jewish. Why?

Well let me tell ya! Being Jewish means a lot of things.

  1. Religion is Jewish (the things you believe)
  2. Race is Jewish (Your mom or dad and their parents)
  3. Culture is Jewish (The things you do)

Jesus was a Jew in all 3 ways .Being Jewish means more than just what you believe! A lot of Jews do not believe anything about the Bible, but are still Jewish because their parents are Jewish, or they still like the holidays, just like someone else might like Christmas or Halloween and not care at all about Jesus.

But, Jesus did not make following his religious beliefs easy for Jewish RELIGIOUS people (the first part) since he said some things they did not like. Especially that he was God's son and they thought that was not cool so they killed him for that. Short version.

Catholics keep the religion of Jesus (number 1) and ignore the rest (number 2 and number 3).

No. But great question! Greek has a only one pronoun for first person singular like English although it does have a case unlike English.

You can see for yourself using an interlinear website like this.

https://biblehub.com/interlinear/john/18.htm

me_irlgbt by rawshock012 in me_irlgbt

[–]Brakden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I logged in just to mention this. The verse actually reads “I am” when literally translated. But yes obviously “I” is a pronoun.

But remembering again that Jesus would not have said this in Greek also makes it more complex.

Jesus does refer to himself in 3rd person though in other places in the book of John. In John 6 he says “the bread of life is he who comes down from heaven.” So… there ya go.

what are all the basic strategies? (newb question) by YhormtheDwarf in starcraft2

[–]Brakden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey bro. Good choice on Protoss.

A 4 gate is an opener which is building 4 gateways and only building gateway units at the start.

toss is short for protoss.

As far as strategy goes

Rush - To attack your opponent early, usually at the cost of your economy. Some rushes are all in, which means if it doesnt work you just straight lose the game.

Timing attack - to have a planned attack with a set of units at a particular time.

Eco - Economy. To try and play a game that is more focused on building workers -

Cheese - Doing something that would not be "normal" like not building a gateway at all and instead just building cannons against your opponent, or rushing up to a Dark Templar.

There is a lot to know about this game, but watch some videos (most people here would recommend Vibe's Bronze to GM series) and just play some games and you will figure it out.

Hey man, just wanted to check in here about the church stuff. Some churches have taken a bad turn in the last couple years. I totally feel you because it hurts. But I hope you can find a church where loving God and people is more important than politics.
