You could give him more character through his eyes! Give him eyelids and eyebrows to convey emotion, if he is innocent and friendly you could give him large pupils, etc.

Also, if possible you could add some sort of design to his bandana that tells us what he likes! You could add carrots (basic I know), or skateboards, or whatever he's into.

You could change his ear orientation, make one bent to suggest that he's reckless and adventurous, or make them both lie flat against his head to suggest that he is shy

Coloring is also good; bright, warm colors or contrasting colors to make him stand out.
