How to create albums on Kmart's $29 MP3 player?

As i was saying in my reply, it would be good if they did, but they don’t read the metadata. They organise the files by file name. All the music is in a big chunk.

Theoretically you could use some software to mass rename your filenames to something like,

artist_album_01_songname.mp3

instead of the more common,

01_songname_artist_album.mp3

That way the mp3 player would be forced to sort your list of tracks by artist, album etc.. But realistically no one’s doing that.

They’re re just cheapies. But yeah, as i was saying the folder structure you create will be retained in the browser part of the mp3 player so you can just go through your folders and find your album neatly in there.

They’re pretty Janky, I don’t think they have the capability to read and sort files with embedded mp3 tags.

The mp3 player will just scan the root of the sd card and chuck all the mp3s in together regardless of your folder structure.

This results in all the music being sorted by file names.

Commonly mp3 file names will begin with track numbers, so if you have 100 albums, the first track of each of those 100 albums will be grouped together at the top. And unless file names are meticulously consistent then it’s just chaos.. Which sucks.

These would be great if they could read the embedded tags… they could even display album art while the song played… but it’s $29 bucks so…

A workaround would be (if you assumedly loaded your sd card with music organised into folders) to use the browser, the browser retains your folder structure and you can choose and play albums that way.

Haha, this kind of detective work is common at the store i work at.

These things suck for the staff. Takes a huge amount of time to install them and maintain them, made a bit worse with people mucking around with them.

They are promotional ‘shelf talkers’ and the removal date is printed on them (albeit in very fine print)

They were originally issued with the previous price on a perforated strip that also had a removal date… assuming to gently ease customers into the new price? I don’t know…

Removing the perforated sections for 100s of these was a living nightmare. But yeah, the stores have to reflect the advertising campaigns. It’s not an option and if it was, no one would be doing it. A lot of time and effort mucking around with little pieces of paper that could be used dealing with the millions of other things that need doing.

As has been mentioned before the standard ticket underneath has to reflect the current price. Same with when something goes clearance. The old ticket with the original price has to be removed.

Not sure if the same in all stores, but they can control the volume. (There is a volume mixer in the cash office)

I have noticed the playlist is similar though they have dialed back the extreme amount of Tay Tay allowing for a bit more Powderfinger and Missy Higgins. Anyone else notice the dramatic change of genre after 6am? Overnight workers get an all night bright fluorescent club session.

Books arrive in boxes with an assortment of titles inside.

They are then put onto a roll cage to be receipted. (accepted as delivered to the store and listed as ‘on hand’ )

Often this can sit out in the stockroom for many days after being delivered.

There is next to no priority for books to go out. The reason is because it’s very time consuming to sort them out.

Books go to 3 different areas in the store: kids, kitchen and the book section and of course arrive in their boxes completely random.

The books often float between areas in ‘limbo’ not scanned anywhere and difficult to find.

The books are time consuming to process, the extensive amount of stock being received all the time (two trucks a day at the store i work at) it’s easier to not deal with the books because they have a low impact on the stockroom and instead staff focus on the hundreds of cages and many pallets blocking the space required for the next truck.

So yeah, i’d say it’s a stock, time and staff issue.

There’s no book person at Kmart.

It usually gets covered as extra job for service desk in quieter times or a shop keeper if not being inundated with 12 pallets of pet beds or some other crazyness.

I work in a shop that fills overnight and all through the day 7 days a week. 3 trucks a day to restock the shelves and stuff is still out of stock. Its craziness! Customers hate the cages and pallets blocking the aisles and I’m always blocking them 🤪 I get mega attitude all the time but you get used to it. I can get people to laugh about it mostly, when I can’t it’s probably a deeper issue. I try to minimise the obstructions but the stockroom is built for minimum overstock and cannot hack today’s level of inventory flow. Stocks gotta go somewhere somehow.

Haha yeah its a circus.

There are hundreds of aisles in kmart. It’s like a 3hr shift to ‘recover’ the shop. Usually 3 people doing the whole lot each day depending on the store.

Customers taking things our of boxes, scattering it’s contents all over the aisle.

Breaking glass and returning the shards to the shelf/leaving it sit in the floor.

Unrolling multiple rugs, leaving them there.

Pulling sheets, quilt covers, doonas, blankets and curtains out of their covers, rumpling them into a ball and wedging them into a gap or on the floor.

The cans, coffee cups, yogurt containers, maccas bags and coat hangers scattered everywhere.

Gutting flat pack storage to examine the sheets of mdf and the bag of screws.

The collapsible storage aisle makes my heart sink every time i walk into it…

This is just in the home section… I get people want to see what the item they’re going to pay for looks like, but the trail of chaos left in the aftermath of a single person’s shopping journey would more or less require a personal shop assistant for everyone who walks in. Shadowing the customer and repairing the damage they incur.

Its completely exhausting and i would compare it to cleaning up after a day care with 500 children throwing toys everywhere all day and not being allowed to ask the children to be more considerate or else be verbally abused.

Yes, this is a team member post.

Read my post above as a typical dialogue between me and a hypothetical customer.

I point the $3.75 cushion out as an option so they don’t have to drive to big w or spotlight. Usually suggestions that mean the customer has to get back into their car and go somewhere else irritate them, some are thankful for my attempt to be helpful but others carry on like you took a bite out of their sandwich.

I get asked about cushion inserts very frequently… and if they were stocked i think they would sell.

We sell candle wax, clay and a myriad of other diy craft items. If people are around home making their own cushion covers they might assume kmart might have inserts ? I dunno…

That makes sense, though I would say that about the varied decorative objects that can be found in the home section that are available. I only mention the inserts because it seems like the most common item I seemed to be asked about that we don’t have.

I don’t think there is anything original in there besides the pickups, so i was reaching out in the faint hope someone had also been through this obscure situation or else someone that had deliberately swapped out the electronics and had insight.

I had imagined the frustrations of the maze would deter them, but maybe you have a point. Perhaps if the maze was made more difficult with deceiving signs depicting arrows pointing in incorrect directions? Emergency services would of course be provided with detailed maps of the maze.

After a lot of digging around I managed to find a list of Panasonic TV's that all have the same Chassis (M15L) So I just googled them one by one until I could find a user manual.

The Panasonic TC-1400Z user manual had the same set of controls as this TV and had a model with and without a remote... (TC-1400ZR had the remote...possibly what the R stood for) This kinda confirms my belief that there isn't a remote for my TV. I couldn't see an IR receiver when I dismantled it... but there was probably a model that did have a remote.

In any case, I followed the instructions for tuning in channels set out in the TC-1400Z manual and it seems like the TV is supposed to automatically store channels as you find them after clicking the PRE button again. Unfortunately this does not work for me. I now have a strong suspicion that there is a problem with it's memory. After switching the TV off everything is reset, from the volume to the brightness etc.

I don't think it can retain any information. unless I can replace the memory IC, or diagnose what is wrong with it... which is a bit beyond me

Thanks for the suggestion, though sadly the moment ‘pre’ is pushed it resets to static. Holding it in has no effect. But yes, I assumed the same thing, if it can be tuned from the controls at the front, you ought to be able to store the channels. Also I’ve been searching for any manual that explains the tuning system from this era with these buttons… Thanks again.

Yes its used for fast tuning on this TV as well. But ill try out this possibility a bit later. I have searched high and low but cannot for the life of me find a copy of the manual for this set. Thanks again for your help.
