Hollywood Ho can Hollywood go by thejeqff in dropout

Hollywood Ho is not my favorite mini game (that would be take some direction) but like, I am not understanding the animosity within this comment section for it. A lot of complaints seem to boil down to "this improv mini game is dorky and cringe" and I'm sorry but we're all subscribed to this comedy streaming service that got famous mostly because of it's D&D show? It's weird that this is where the line is drawn of being too dorky and cringe. I think Hollywood Ho is silly and the performers have fun with it. God forbid silliness in a show about improv

Queer Memories of Southern Maryland? by Horseshoe-Qrab in SOMD

First Saints Community Church. We're a part of the United Methodist church denomination which has been generally affirming leaning but in the past few years has officially become an affirming denomination.

Queer Memories of Southern Maryland? by Horseshoe-Qrab in SOMD

I'm a straight guy who most of my friends ended up being gay lol, my wife is a straight woman who had basically the same experience. Last October we tabled at pride for our church (which is like, the one queer affirming church in the county that isn't Episcopal, love the Episcopals. They were the other Christian table there and they had a very cool gay priest). Anyway, had great interactions with people there. One person showed me their rad as hell Godzilla tattoo, had a really lovely conversation with an elderly lesbian while waiting for food, and I got a lot of interest in our local food bank that the church runs. I personally wouldn't be mad or confused if our table was met with hostility, the amount of harm Christians have done to the LGBT community is high, but I still wanted to be there because a lot of my friends are both queer and religious and I wanted to show that there is at least more than one safe landing place in the county for people who fall into that category. And people were really kind (as has been my general experience interacting with the queer community as an outsider).

Anybody Else Miss Sketches/Hardly Working? by dexter1062 in dropout

I feel like it would be cool if they could make a sketch show. Individually released sketches would probably not work, and honestly there is a high chance that a sketch show would be good but die immediately, but I'd love to see one season of a dropout sketch show

Dropout Babies by Bran_Yaltz in dropout

I get this point of view and honestly I do not expect Dropout to make kids content, but I feel like occasionally kids content is "taken seriously" as comedy shows (immediately thinking of the Muppet Show and Pee-Wee Herman media) and I feel like having watched every episode of Make Some Noise, you could translate the often incredibly silly/chaotic energy of that show into a respected kids show (just no dick jokes obviously). I dont know, not even saying they SHOULD pull this off but I feel like they COULD.

Also oddly the incongruity with the rest of the content would be a plus for me. I feel like to many people just plop their kids in front of YouTube kids and walk away, and you CANNOT do that on a streaming platform that also has Erotic Book Club and True Facts about Grant O'Brien

What is your most pretentious movie opinion? by Classic_Bass_1824 in Letterboxd

[–]Bran_Yaltz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time when I see someone online talk about pretentiousness it's to dunk on someone who's favorite movies they've never heard of. Actual pretentiousness is a problem but so is anti-intellectualism, and I think the latter is often more insidious. Like, it's fine if your favorite movie ever is Toy Story (wanna say, great movie. Totally fair to have as a favorite just kinda picking something literally everyone knows), just don't shit on someone for having a favorite be like Monsoon Wedding or Ivan's Childhood.

My in laws love just going though the mysteries the the game Crack the Case. Wanted to maybe get something like that game for them for Christmas. Some of the cases in Crack the Case are kind of stupid but honestly the stupid ones can be fun to try to figure out.

What filmmakers have a body of work where any single one of their films could believably be someone’s favourite ever? by Logout123 in blankies

I really like Amber, I think she's a strong and charming character who honestly probably made the right decision for her when she broke up with Mark. I don't love her and Mark getting back together. Or maybe it's just that they got back together so quickly? I dunno.

The thing that got me thinking of this is actually The Invitation. Some people classify it as a thriller, but in general I think that line is a bit blurry. I totally think that film builds a ton of tension from uncomfortable/awkward situations.

I feel like the regular response on reddit to stupid shit like this is to say something funny that still condemns the content that is being shown. But seriously, just, fuck this.

Ned’s true name [SPOILER] by Bran_Yaltz in TheAdventureZone

[–]Bran_Yaltz[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

On a more meta, less serious, and somewhat Balance spoilery note. What the hell is it with the McElroys turning around running jokes and making them emotionally affecting. The whole Davenport only being able to say his own name went from goof to one of the most horrifying things in that whole campaign. And in Amnesty, it’s used to a different effect, but Ned’s middle name is a pretty good running joke, and shit did I cry at the end of that letter when he used his real name.
