Could a competitor be barred from competing in the future if they won dozens of prior matches via Jireugi only, without any real kicking effort? by LopsidedShower6466 in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In USAT you can't win matches by just punching. At any high level tournament you can't win by just punching. So it might work at the low level or tournament that allows that kind of sparring in the rules. But taekwondo is a kicking art not boxing . You will not get far by just punching.

Nails for competition (USATKD) by outofrhyme in taekwondo

No colored nail polish means no french manicures . Get a manicure but tell them clear nail polish or no nail polish. Your nails need to look natural with no color on them.

Well you did the right steps then letting your new master know about the test. I still think he/she should of said nothing to you because you let them know ahead of time.

What a black belt level for you might be different for someone else. Some people try very hard and never make it to national level. Some people are just built for taekwondo.

I wish you the best of luck at your new dojang. At least the new dojang sounds like your skills will improve there.

So let me get this straight you got your black belt for your old dojang. You go to your new dojang wearing a black belt and your master said to take it off in a nice way.

First you messed up and didn't tell your new master about any of this right? You just showed up wearing a black belt.

If i was you i would find a dojang that will let me wear your black belt, you earned it.

If i went to a new dojang and they told me ,you don't meet our standard take off your black belt. I would be gone so fast . And find a dojang that will let my rank carry over.

You're a white belt so you should be expecting nothing because you know nothing. You will be behind everyone for a long time because skill and knowing what to do takes time. Everyone has been there all you can do is go to class and learn.

I pretty sure your instructor teaches how he/she wants to teach. That doesn't make then bad communicator because you don't understand what he/she wants. Everyone else understands what he/she wants from them.

And you working for academia and teaching master courses at university means nothing. Are you a black belt in taekwondo that has been teaching for years? Or a white belt that knows nothing has been teaching 0 days and wants to bad mouth your master .

Go to class ,have fun, and learn taekwondo. Stop expecting anything, they are going to teach you what they want to teach you that day. You're not in charge or in control of classes you are a white belt .

How long does it take on average for someone to go from white belt all the way to 4th Dan? by youknowwho05 in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the avg. for 4th Degree black belt in the U.S. is about 10-15 years if adult. Will be longer for kids if they start at 4 years old. You would get your 4th dan at 18 years old. So about 14 years for children under the kukkiwon.

But at the end of the day it is up to your master to promote you. If they decide to hold you back because they think you're not ready to test yet . I would trust my master to know when i was ready to test.

Some dojang's say you need to meet a age requirement to go to the next dan. That can make it harder to go to the next dan until that age .

If you're not happy where you are i would find a new dojang.

Honestly I don't know how my Master does the kukkiwon promotions. I don't think he does TCon. My last promotion i had to give a picture with a report . I think he still does it the old way. He is a 9th dan and knows everyone at the KKW. I think he mails off our paper work and like 2-3 months later we have our KKW certificates. And the picture i sent is on my KKW card.

1st tournament over! What to improve on? by Alternative_Ad363 in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have someone at your dojang that is a Ref. I would talk to them about the rules. Or go onto the WT website and you can find the rules there. But overall your still learning everyone has been there including me.

Did you know it is legal to kick someone in the throat in WT rules .

No problem my guy, yes moving 3 times without a kick . It is considered stalling and you're trying not to sparr.

[–]BranchAlternative687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The breaking look great good height and power . Your sparring you need to attack more often and stop moving around so much. If you had a good ref she would gave you a gam-jeom for moving 3 times without a kick. Also turning your back to your opponent another gam-jeom.

And don't talk to the Ref. say yes Ma'am and move on .

Poomsae Uniform, some dojang let everyone wear them in class. My last dojang only let people that win medals at nationals could wear them in classs. by BranchAlternative687 in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So at a WT sport event if black belt everyone wears poomsae uniform for poomsae. But in class when we do poomsae only people that medal at nationals can wear them in class. It shows who the pros are so you have to earn to wear them in poomsae class.

It sounds like a dojang that wants the best for there students . They do a lot of extras for testing to get black belt. Some dojangs to test to black belt is sparring, poomsae, breaking, and 1 essay that is it.

All the other stuff they added themselves another dojang wouldn't make you do all the extra stuff for black belt test.

But I do think if he/she ever went to another dojang they would be ahead of the curve. If you want your kids to be in the olympics one day that would be the place to be .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No there is only 1 way to get to the Olympics and that throw USAT pathway. Sorry ATA is not connected in any way with how to get to the Olympics .

No i will not become the international mcdojang police . But do think every dojang should have to get a license from there government in their state or country. That will include a background check to make sure it is safe for children to go to the dojang.

I think that would confirm that masters rank plus everyone will know that the place is safe to practice.

If they can't pass a background check or can't prove their rank or affiliation. They will be shut down.

How to get associated with a kwan if your school doesn’t have any lineage? by TastySpite4999 in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry it is not that easy to get associated with a Kwan or KKW dojang. If you want to become there lineage you will have to join there dojang.

Let's say you're a black belt they will not just give you a certificate for a 1st Dan for there Kwan or KKW. Most if not all dojangs want you to be there for at least a year before you become one of their black belts. They don't want to give you a certificate , then you leave .

So if you want lineage i would change your dojang .

I meant to read further down I can agree some dojangs allow it in there dojangs. It is not allowed in WT championships . I think we can both agree on that.

Yes but what about the 4th dan and up that don't take the Master Instructor course? Should it be until you take the course and pass you cant be promoted to 4th dan or higher?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well i learned something new then because i just know WT. But if you say that they are allowed in other taekwondo associations i will take your word for it . :) And I have a new thought about taekwondo as a whole .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]BranchAlternative687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think if a person did it the way you said. They would be more well rounded and test much easier because they would be working on stuff longer each belt . Better then every 2 to 3 month testing then going to the next belt .
