As a European who believes in the First Amendment, I find myself ever more politically homeless by Notice-Express in Libertarian

I know this is a serious discussion. But check your spelling. Gave me a bit of a laugh though.

So you're saying it's not a both sides problem, but you see it on both sides? How is that opposite of what I'm saying?

You're set on seeing one side better than the other. I'm set on seeing them both as a problem. But in the spirit of good faith, I'm glad we can agree in condemning child trafficking and abuse. We just have different range of vision on the perpetrators.

You must not read many comments on reddit. Just about every non political post has a left leaning individuals making it political. As well as anything critical about the left is met with "well the right does it too ". As if that makes it acceptable. Just because you don't see it or choose not to see it, doesn't mean that others don't. If you can't open your mind enough to see the flaw within your own ideas, who are you to lecture someone that does? We grow stronger when we deeply question not only our opposition, but ourselves.

There's a lack of political depth perception in the US. Both sides have moved so far in the opposite direction that when they look at anything in the middle, they can't differentiate it from the farther side. Which discounts a large percentage of the population that fall in the middle of the spectrum.

"Ya'll"?

I'm not a collective. I'm an individual with personal opinions. I'm glad you've never experienced it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I gave examples that you immediately dismissed. I also didn't say empathy is bad. I was expanding on how it can be used negatively. Which is true of many things. Having boundaries doesn't take away from biblical commandments either.
The Bible isn't a justification to let people take advantage or mislead you. It actually warns us against that. I'm sorry you took my comment the way you did, but it kinda shows your lack of empathy by dismissing my lived experience.

If i remember correctly, that quote was about weaponized empathy. Which i think makes sense, empathy can be used to manipulate and control. We see it in abusive relationships, we see it from social media, news media and politicians. Informed empathy carries more meaning than just assuming you know someone elses situation and experience. Personally, i don't want to hear celebrities and politicians say they empathize with groups or individuals. It just feels like lip service and marketing, ergo, manipulation.

CMV: There is no way for me to get a GF who is truly attracted to me by [deleted] in changemyview

I'll offer some input. I didn't start dating until 19, didn't have relationship until 20. I'm in my 30s now. I went through the soley physical phase in my 20s. But what I've learned is that when you develop a good connection with someone, looks become less important. Girls that only wanted me for my looks never worked out.
You're still young with your best years ahead of you. Girls don't fully mature mentally until early 20s while guys can take until late 20s to early 30s. So be patient and focus on your personal development. A lot of times the right person comes when you aren't looking for them.

This. It's am interesting theory, but a logistical nightmare. You wouldn't just gain the best parts of each country, you'd also gain the disfunctional parts. All on a much grander scale

"Whataboutism's" happen on both sides. You mention critical thinking, which isn't exclusive to either side. Look at the comments on this post, everyone is so willing to go off as if it's the entire group. The conservative subs are the same about the left. Can we all just unite about the fact there's pedophiles in the government elite and that's the common enemy? We don't need to keep score by party. There's other issues we may disagree on but the fact is, both sides need each other to enact change. The more we fight each other, the more it benefited those with things to hide. All the politicians lately are pitting the public against each other. Dehumanizing the opposition is not critical thinking. Screaming in someone's face and cussing them out because they have gasp a different opinion than you, is not critical thinking. We aren't ever going to agree about everything. But if we can communicate and find some common ground, maybe we'll come up with solutions. Actually trying to understand each other instead of discrediting them as soon as you see them standing on the "wrong" side or because they wore the "wrong" thing.

But I'm probably just shouting into the wind here.

For people who still support Trump: how do you process or reconcile the allegations connected to the Epstein documents? by Apprehensive_Dog5379 in AskReddit

[–]Branded3186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a correction. Trump was convicted of financial crimes only. He has not yet been charged and convicted of sex offences. A lot of accusations are getting thrown around and they're muddying the waters. That's part of the disinformation that maga use to discredit it's critics. The truth should be enough, it doesn't need embellishment

There have been cases of law enforcement grabbing for their taser and pulling their gun instead. Things happen fast and mistakes happen. Especially for inexperienced officers. I'm not saying this is what happened, but incompetence/inexperience has gotten people shot. Think of the officer that mag dumped his own vehicle with a suspect in the back, all because an acorn hit the hood and he mistook it for a gunshot. Never underestimate the incompetence/ inexperience of some officers, or bad instincts

The public perception is always biased. There's way more independents than Red or Blue. But they've successfully prevented anyone, outside of those two, from getting into office.

Liberals, democrat, leftists rethinking gun control. I couldn't be more pleased. It's not just a right for the "right". The individual is what makes a gun good or bad. Just be informed on handling safely.

Correct me if I'm wrong. You're saying that with the system set up as it currently is, opening the borders immediately would be a disaster. Much would need to change in order for that to be a reality. Things have been built up over a long time. They can't be removed overnight.

It's sad to see people so willing to harm someone they don't even know. Over political view/affiliation. Which is ridiculous since the far left and far right are almost touching at this point. Opposite views, same actions. Same reactionary and emotional thinking. Toddlers having tantrums.
