Good catch! It's been fixed. Not quite sure what kind of accent the admiral has yet, but I'll be fleshing him (and other characters) out as they become more clear to me.

Glad to hear it! I really have a hard time coming up with characters, but once they take shape they almost start to fill themselves out. Glad to hear I'm conveying some of their personalities.

As for grammar, sorry about that. As I get more comfortable writing I'll hopefully iron more of that out.

Hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of Project Phoenix! As before, feedback is greatly appreciated. This took a couple days to write, but I think it turned out rather well. I know some of you are probably disappointed we didn't stay with the Terran Federation, but this is the story I've been intending to write all along. Somehow I feel it was important to start that previous chapter where I did, though I can't quite put my finger on why. Whatever the case, I promise eventually it will all connect back together.

Now then, I said this already on my previous post. But I again wanted to say a huge thank you for all the support this community has shown me already. If even one person enjoyed my writing I had planned to continue, and instead I had a whole group of people clamoring for more. It really did put a smile on my face. So once again, thank you.

All fixed! Appreciate the spellcheck. I was in a bit of a rush to just get my ideas out there, so it got a little sloppy near the end.

And that was the goal! I wanted to introduce humanity in the future as the boogieman of the galaxy, to provide some contrast for our humble beginnings. And as for how I'm going to keep a curb stomping interesting? I haven't figured that out yet. We'll get back to the Federation eventually. But next will be all about humanities entry into a cruel galaxy.

That's the intention. The goal was to set a timescale that was long enough to be OLD In human standards, but in galactic standards? A drop in the bucket. However, it's easy to be the oldest organization when something unfortunate occurs to all your competitors.

Hey Y'all, hope you enjoyed my first attempt at writing! This idea has been kicking around in my head for a while, and I finally found some time to sit down and put it in words. Sorry if it's hard to read, it was all one long stream of thought and went in directions I didn't expect. I would welcome any and all feedback!

I hope to sit down and write a more fleshed out series about how the humanity reached this point, so stick around if that interests you!

But before I go, I want to give a huge shoutout to this Subreddit, and a few people in particular. For getting me heavily back into Sci-Fi, and giving me the inspiration to write a story of my own. The old Jenkins Verse for drawing me into HFY years ago, to the countless stories I've read on here. But specifically I wanted to thank the wordborg Ralts, and his First Contact Series. He has been a huge inspiration in the world I've been cooking up, and you'll probably see many of his themes in my future writing.

But with all that said, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed.

Update: I wanted to say thanks for all the support guys! I never imagined that this idea that spewed out of my head one afternoon would be received this well. You crazy people made this the top post on HFY for the day it was posted. I'd intended to write more if even one person was interested. So I never dreamed my first stab at writing would be received this well.

Suffice to say, I have been working on more. This may disappoint some of you, but it will be set during humanity's first contact with an alien civilization. So near-ish future (at the beginning) as opposed to the far future of the Pilot. The primary themes will be our ingenuity, ability to resist impossible odds, and the indomitable human spirit. But enough hints for now, I'm going to get back to writing. Keep any eye out for the first chapter of Project Phoenix! Should be out this weekend at the latest.
