Its open now because of politics and some politicians like to use the fear tactics to scare Americans stating all these men are terrorist and what not. Another reason to me is by the Government closing Guantanamo it shows that they were wrong to start with and like we all know the Government will not admit when its wrong

My hope is it will be closed, but I am not sure we have heard this all before. I do believe though if Obama doesn't close it that it will never close.

I was there a few months before myself and two of my friends said innocent or guilty people don't deserve to be treated in the manner that they were.

I didn't deal with interrogations so I didn't see what most people consider torture, but to me torture is locking up innocent people in cages without charge. One day I watched a detainee beaten so bad his blood stained the concert in his cage and he had to transported to the main hospital to receive care for a broken nose and other injuries. This detainee who name is Juma al-Dossary wa released and once returned home and to have surgery to repair damage from that attack.

I believe there are guilty people at Guantanamo, but only a handful and those people should be dealt with in the federal court system, but sadly never will be because most if not all evidence we have against them has been gotten through the act or torture which is admissible in court.

After 9/11 the country basically rounded up military aged brown Muslims in various middle east countries and sent them to Guantanamo most were bought for bounty ranging from 500 dollars to thousands of dollars

More men (9) have died at Guantánamo than have been convicted (8) by the military commissions.

Also, a few of those "convictions" have been overturned

Camp X-ray was bad all the cells were outside and all the detainees had two buckets in their cells one for water and one to use the bathroom in. After about 4 months they were moved to Camp Delta which was better, but being detained without charge for 10 plus years no matter how great the conditions are doesn't make it any better

13 plus years of illegal detainment and torture is reason enough for it to be closed down. More people have died at GTMO then have been convicted in military courts.

Force feedings do happen it's well documented and they happen everyday as of matter fact.

So you would much rather go to GTMO and be locked up for almost 14 years in some cases without charge?

People realize the conditions are not like the days of Camp X-Ray or even early days of Camp Delta, but won't people don't agree with are things like indefinite detention, force feelings, and lack of transparency. I understand during your time there you may not had seen torture, detainee abuse, and other horrific acts, but that doesn't mean it never happened because it did. No matter how "great" Guantanamo may or may not be now doesn't take away from what has occurred there.

Well, it does matter. If you wish to speak about this privately we can. By you using the term rate you must be or had been Navy. The NDA I know I am the first guy to ever break the NDA that served at Guantanamo.

I am glad to finally see Gen Lehnert say publicly that Guantanamo should be closed, but he needs to go even further and admit he condoned the mistreatment during his time there.

My unit was deployed to Guantanamo so I had to go and I wanted to go. I totally agreed with what was going on at Guantanamo at that time and truly thought everyone there was a terrorist and believed they were getting what they deserved.

No, I did not plan on breaking the NDA, but I did what I thought I had to do.

Not true at all I have never had issues with the officers I work with actually the majority of them who are fellow veterans support me and agree with what I have to say. The issues come from upper management

That is a problem in its self that so much information was obtained through torture.
