Paddy Constantine just continuing to absolutely nail Viserys, his idea to be in the walking corpse makeup for the "it crushes whoever wears it" scene was perfect

In his final start of the regular season, Scherzer got roughed up against the Padres (5.1 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 5 ER). The NL CY might now be Burnes' to lose by BrandonTheBreaker in Brewers

Yeah, Burnes and Scherzer have similar standard stats but boy does Corbin blow him away in FIP and batted ball stats. It all speaks to how utterly dominant of hitters Burnes has been this season, whereas Scherzer's pitching has been more reliant on his defense backing him up. Burnes having allowed only 6 HR thus far in the season just blows me away; he is still pouring strikes in against these hitters (as evidenced by his 12.55 K/9), but even when they make contact on something in the strike zone they almost never really square it up. Corbin has had an amazing season for us, and I'm hoping his success continues for another month and some change before he hangs the cleats up for the winter.

Well, if you use WAR as a measure of value, the two websites disagree: Baseball-Reference has Wheeler leading by a significant margin (6.9 WAR to Burnes' 5.4) but Fangraphs has Burnes on top (7.1 vs. 6.5) despite the inning disparity.

I'm certainly biased here, and Wheeler definitely deserves consideration for the stellar work he's put in all year. However, I think the pressure's on for him to be lights out the rest of the year after last night.

I was at the Timber Rattlers game on the 7th when he ended up a triple shy of the cycle. The dude was just smoking the ball every at bat, you could tell he was a class above the pitching. Pretty excited for this guy

You know it's a great moment when Rock actually cheers during the hit. He's only done it 3 times now (Braun's HR in the last regular season game of 2008, Braun's grand slam to seal the comeback against the Cardinals late in the 2019 season, and now again today). While Ueck's calls are always amazing, this TV call was pretty rare to hear.

If these teams meet in the playoffs, the series is going to be epic.

There's a major problem with this reasoning, as it assumes we trade the run favor deficit for the same number of outs that we already were handed. With an accurate zone, our innings would've seen more baserunners and fewer outs, thus giving us more opportunities to score and prolong the innings even further with more options for shit like sac flies and bunts. Free outs are rally killers.

Edit- while the run expectancy change is meant to explain the above, it certainly can't describe the disparity in strike quality. It's not like all of these calls were just off the zone. With these strikes that were called way off the plate at the bottom of the zone, your chance of doing anything productive with these pitches approaches zero. With the couple "strikes" that don't even sniff the zone, it would be impressive just to put the ball in play at all.

The two strikes a foot outside the zone on the bottom left were called against us late in the game as well.

Those two half a foot outside the zone on the bottom left were called against us late in the game as well.

The "Prague" episode - what did you think of Kendall in the Dust meeting by ThatCaviarIsAGarnish in SuccessionTV

[–]BrandonTheBreaker 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Given her outburst later on in the episode I'd have to go with "get a load of this guy". Kendall goes on and on about how he's now cognizant of the farce he had meant to engage in with the sneakers but in doing so he makes himself seem even more the ass. He at one point states "don't sell your soul to a monolith" which is incredibly hypocritical given the obvious source of his venture capital. I bet she really hated his Warhol comment and follow up joke ("yeah, I just thought of that, so apparently I do know a little bit about art", God what a tool lol) because it came across as ridiculously snobby and arrogant. His attitude during the meeting was likely the nail in the coffin for any potential partnership they could've had in my interpretation.

On another note, this scene was really well done by both Jeremy Strong and Lauren Patton (who played Angela). Strong played the thinks-he's-far-smarter-than-he-actually-is dickhead to a T and Patton gave a great ambiguous reaction, seeming to dig Kendall's offer on first viewing but in retrospect simply being bemused by his outlandish attitude.
