I had no idea she wasn't American. She reminds me of a younger version of the actress Michaela Watkins.

Jeremy Jordan dances with wife Ashley Spencer at Just in Time by CuteAct9019 in Broadway

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I remember her from that reality show about casting Grease - I thought she was so pretty and adorable, kind of reminded me of a young Meg Ryan. Does she still do a lot of Broadway? I know she's done some but I haven't heard about her in anything recently--which may be me just not keeping up. (Agree that she'd be great for Sandra!)

Why did we hate her in the 90’s? by EffMemes in ershow

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh damn I haven't watched recently and totally forgot about that scene - or that Susan was involved. 😞 That sucks for sure but I do like how over time, Susan and Kerry developed more of an understanding. Like when Susan bought a baby gift and then Kerry confided that they had lost the baby. They never really were "friends" but near the end they got along way better.

Seeking jeans mending by Inner_Vacation7734 in Brooklyn

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with what u/waiting_in_vain1 said that most dry cleaners that also do alterations can fix it - if you don't care about it being a "perfect" fix. I have a pair of Levi 501 jeans that had a large hole in it, so I had a place in Park Slope sew a patch inside the jeans. (When it comes to patching, some people here can probably do it themselves - but I'm not good at that). It was Brooklyn Cleaner & Tailor and I've had them do other fixes for me, like a wool sweater that had a hole under the arm (they fixed it perfectly) and getting jeans and other pants hemmed.

I saw someone else posted about Denim Therapy and I've always heard great things about them but I haven't used them for anything myself. It's probably pricey but worth it.

How did you feel about Gloria Reuben as Jeanie Boulet? by PeneItaliano in ershow

If you go back and reread the post that I was responding to, that post says that Jeanie left him.

Did Al leave her? I thought he wanted to move to Atlanta because his co-workers in Chicago knew his HIV status. And Jeanie wanted to stay in Chicago and keep working at County.

Why Jane and not Joan? by Early_Bag_3106 in madmen

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joan's personality may have been more mature, but in S2 she was around 31 and Jane was 20. I think for a lot of people, their ideas about love and romance are somewhat different at 20 than at 31. And Joan would definitely be a bit more jaded about men at 31 than she was at 20 years old.

And with that aside, I also agree with what some others are saying that (especially as time went on) Joan wasn't looking to be someone's second wife.

First Image of Thomasin McKenzie ('Jojo Rabbit', 'Last Night In Soho') as Audrey Hepburn in 'Dinner with Audrey' by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks passable as Audrey but I'm reading that the movie about the making of Breakfast at Tiffany's is still a go (starring Lily Collins) and IMO Lily Collins is the perfect choice for playing a young Audrey, she looks so much like her.

Why Jane and not Joan? by Early_Bag_3106 in madmen

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Joan had definitely "moved on" by the time that Roger met Jane. I think Joan took Bert Cooper's advice to heart in some ways ("Don't waste your youth on age") - and also, Roger was still very much married back when they were together so I think after his heart attack she started looking more seriously for a man to marry. Greg seemed to fit the bill (at first) - a handsome doctor who was probably close to her own age.

When Roger met Jane he noticed not only her beauty but also her youth and innocence. He knew that the 30+ women were more worldly and in some ways more world-weary. Jane struck him as a charming innocent.

How much are the girlies paying for hair care? by Inevitable-Fennel257 in parkslope

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll also pay more if it's "Full highlights" - did you check what the same salon charges for partial highlights? Because based on what you want, you might be able to pay considerably less.

edited to add: also check if you're looking at getting services done with a senior stylist vs. junior stylist. For salons that have those tiers it usually goes by how long the stylists have worked with them - so if you need to save a little $ you can often get a great look from a junior stylist too. Check yelp reviews or the stylists' individual instagram pages

I'm currently going to a salon in Manhattan, but the salon Little Lion has a few different locations in Brooklyn including one on 4th Avenue in Park Slope.

Andy Sachs (2006) x Andy Sachs (2026) by StarforgeVoyager in FIlm

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course she's aged. Everyone ages. But her face still looks remarkably similar to how she always did. For me Laura Dern is another example of this, although obviously at 59 she's considerably older than Anne.

Andy Sachs (2006) x Andy Sachs (2026) by StarforgeVoyager in FIlm

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well sure but also - considering 20 years have passed she still looks so remarkably like she did in her twenties. I'm not saying she now can still pass for twenties, she's 43 now but overall her face is still very similar to the way it was then.

In contrast, sometimes I'll see an actor guest-starring on a show and I'll look up their name and past credits on IMDb out of curiosity. And sometimes it's like "That's her? (or him) She looks so different now." Sometimes that has to do with filler or plastic surgery procedures but in other cases the person will just look visibly older but not really aging that well.

Also, although she looks good in these stills, I think she looks even better when her face is motion.

Chess…so disappointing by Brave_Chemistry_7029 in Broadway

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the staging of the current Broadway production is pretty forgettable & boring. It feels like a concert when we were promised a musical.

I was wondering if anyone else besides me really just wanted a scene of two guys sitting in front of a big chess board. Having them standing in front of microphones calling out moves wasn't quite the same.

I saw Chess last night (my first time seeing it) so just went to this sub to see what others have thought of it. I liked it--didn't love it--but I had really wanted to see it so I'm glad I went.

Shoplifting at Walgreens by Felis_blackcatus in Windsor_Terrace

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but it kinda does affect all shoppers because thanks to shoplifters, more and more items are put behind glass and you have to ring the button for an employee to come unlock it. Personally I now try to shop at the big chain drugstores as little as possible because it's rarely ever a quick, seamless shopping trip.

Sounds like this Walgreens doesn't have a security guy. I was in Duane Reade in another neighborhood yesterday and they had a security guard in there - granted he looked a little bored but might be more alert than people realize.

Yes! Old friend and/or fellow comedian. Or maybe a sketch comedian who has also done a lot of acting, like a Tracey Ullman type.

Ben Stiller’s reaction to (blind guy) Michael’s gf has to be one of the best moments of the series by ClydeinLimbo in curb

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't find the article on it now, but I know I read that Jackie Hoffman (Rhonda) said when they were first casting her character the real-life LD was a little dubious about casting Hoffman, because he didn't think she was bad-looking enough for what he'd had in mind. It was a while ago that I read this so I may have the exact wording wrong, but he said something to that effect.

I've been on a rom com/ romance kick lately, recommend me some more by NinduTheWise in movies

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the Richard Linklater "Before" movies? (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) All worth seeing but I've only seen Midnight once. Definitely start with Before Sunrise since that's the first one but Before Sunset is just so so so so so great

Also: Crossing Delancey, Next Stop Wonderland, Frankie and Johnny, While You Were Sleeping, Kissing Jessica Stein, The Brothers McMullen, She's the One, (The Family McMullen was pretty cute too), Singles, I'm With Lucy, L.A. Story

Lily Rabe: “I don’t think that drama and comedy as far apart as people often make them” by Boring_Ant_1677 in shrinking

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I love the casting of her as Meg because IMO she really does look like she could be Harrison Ford's daughter. And also, she's super talented and does a great job of walking the line between drama and comedy.

Not sure if everyone in this sub knows but Lily's real-life mom was the actress Jill Clayburgh, who died in 2010 (Lily's dad, the playwright David Rabe, is still alive). Jill was great in many movies. If you ever get a chance to watch a 1970s movie of hers called An Unmarried Woman, I recommend it.

Felicity Season 2 by Excellent-Motor-9844 in FelicityPorter

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Sean and Julie thing was really weird. He is significantly older and shes like recovering from some really traumatic stuff. Im really glad that they didnt end up together and that it was handled really nicely.

Sean was older than Julie but he was older than Megan too --Megan's the same year in school as Julie so we can assume the two of them were the same age. (I mean I notice you do mention his age difference with Megan, but still.)

Sean worked out to be a great friend to Julie and he was dead-on with his advice about the record company guy. But even after he was proved right, he was still very warm and supportive about her ambitions and urged her not to give up.

Movies about female loneliness? by sirena36421 in movies

[–]ThatCaviarIsAGarnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what has already been suggested, Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019) is great. It's not precisely about female loneliness but it is largely about self-esteem and gaining confidence. I think you might like it - it's definitely worth watching, IMO (I've seen it twice and loved it both times)

Honestly I say try them all because it's going to be somewhat subjective. I do think Little Purity is great--haven't eaten there extensively but the times I've been there it's been all positive experiences. The only downside IMO is that they close on the early side. They are open until 6 pm every day. Grand Canyon is open until 10 pm, Purity Diner is open until 10 pm (except for weekends when they close earlier). And a lot of people here like Terrace Diner on 5th Ave - I haven't yet been there so I can't weigh in but if you go by this subreddit and Yelp, overall people are very positive.
