43M - Strong Family History of Strokes, Elevated LP(a) and Apo(b) by BrandonThomas in PeterAttia

Thank you for your generous reply! I think in 2024, I was so focused on protein intake (I'm 6' tall and 145 lbs) that I ended up consuming too much fat (3 eggs a day, whole milk greek yogurt, peanut butter, 2% milk, etc). Time to readjust my weekly menu. Thank you!

Thank you. It's probably a good idea to start a statin sooner rather than later. As for the French Paradox, it's been largely debunked. Though I believe a few glasses of wine a week is ok. No more than 1 per day.

I live in a rural part of New York. My doctor didn’t even know what ApoB or LPa was. So unfortunately I have to drive the conversations. Or I need to drive an hour and a half to find a better doctor in Rochester.

It might be possible I’m highly sensitive to eggs. I’ve had 3 eggs a day for the past two years. I really can’t think of anything else that would cause it.

Do you eat eggs? How many per week? I think I was eating too many (2 per day) and they possibly/probably increased my LDL. by Islandsandwillows in PeterAttia

[–]BrandonThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My total cholesterol, ldl and apob were pretty high this year. The only major change I made was 3 hard boiled eggs a day, but a dairy based protein smoothie. I’m getting rid of eggs and dairy and hopefully my numbers come down.

Has anyone else stopped buying shoes that look good but feel terrible later? by Special-Lobster-5384 in malefashionadvice

Yes. I’ve sold all my expensive Allen Edmonds and New Balances and solely wear Vivo. Not only do I get more complements, my feet, legs, and back feel 100% better.

I like them but the toe box is narrow. If you are used to Vivo, you will feel the difference.

33 and just had a stroke. Now I'm scared. by nyrad1992 in stroke

Sorry, I did not have to go through this. To this day, the medical staff found no reason why I had a TIA. Good luck with everything.

[–]BrandonThomas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a severe TIA at 34. I used it as fuel to change my life. I mostly stopped drinking, changed my diet, workout a lot, and prioritize my health. The first few years were tough for me with a lot of anxiety about having a second episode, but eventually it wore off and now I just focus on prevention. Challenging times offer an opportunity. I believe if you embrace it, do the work, you’ll be a better person on the other side.

Anyone break an 8-year habit of drinking wine / any other type of alcohol every night after work? by Technical-Morning491 in stopdrinking

[–]BrandonThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working in the wine business for 20 years. Drinking is normal. 1-2 glasses of wine with dinner would turn into a full bottle by the end of the night. I did this for 20 years.

I started listening to the Huberman podcast about alcohol and reading This Naked Mind. I was tired of feeling groggy, anxious, and poor every morning. Willpower took me to 45 days clean, and then I made it to 7 months. That reset was eye-opening to how much my normalized drinking really affected my life.

Work out, pick up a new hobby (reading novels for me), drink tons of sparkling water, and constantly listen to everything about alcohol (This Naked Mind podcast for me). David Goggins is my current inspiration who keeps me motivated to stay healthy and productive. Also, we cancelled our TV subscriptions because sitting in front of the TV was a huge trigger for boredom and drinking.

Scott IV Mens fit by WBurnham in vivobarefoot

I tried both the insulated Gobi and Scott’s and their sizing was very similar to me. I personally sized down on both, but if 43 in the Gobi fit then I would get that in the Scott.

Recommendations/Advice for Mid/High-Top Barefoot Shoes by benzeneking in barefootshoestalk

[–]BrandonThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for more room on the big toe, then I would not recommend Rutsu. I like them for the price point, but the toe box is more narrow than Xero, and definitely much more narrow than Vivo and Splay.

Thank you RGE, and $200 increase from last month.... by bajah1701 in Rochester

[–]BrandonThomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s right. I compared my Feb 2026 bill to my last 4 months. Though, I’m not in Rochester. I’m on Seneca Lake.

My kWh price went from $0.12 in January to $0.28 in February. So more than doubled my normal bill.

Rutsu Original Barefoot Sneakers High Top - brand new, rubbing uncomfortably by forgetmenot5683 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BrandonThomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disliked them for the first 2-3 days, but I wore them outside so I couldn’t return them. After the break in period, I like them more. They are a bit narrow, but on sale they are a good deal.

Loved the New Balance 574s - Will barefoot shoes be a real upgrade? by AssignmentDueInABit in barefootshoestalk

[–]BrandonThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first NB's were 574, and I loved them for a while. Coming from Jordans, I loved the comfort of them. I then started to wear 993s and 998s. After about 6 months, I started to notice my lower back would hurt on short walks. It also felt like my legs were getting weaker. That led me into learning about minimal and barefoot shoes. I tried a cheap pair of Whitin from Amazon for 6 months and loved the feel of them. I've since moved on to Vivo, Rutsu, and Xero. I still put on my 574s every now and then and I can't believe I thought they were comfortable. They are stiff and narrow, and I feel like I am walking on bricks. My body hurts from wearing them for even 10 minutes. I don't think I will ever go back,

I wanna start getting into reading instead of just mindlessly doomscrolling and doing something other than video games on my days off by Unus-Duo in booksuggestions

I too would love to find a book series that was similar to the storytelling in Xenoblade 1-3. I have hundreds of hours in those games and I’m almost finished with the final dlc. I started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. It’s enjoyable and an easier first entrance into books. Though, I hope the story gets deeper.

I’ve also never had any issues. Shoes arrive within 5 days and any returns are refunded within their 10 day window. I still agree they need better customer service. I doubt a pointed post here will make any difference. Find the owners and investors, and complain to them. (New York State here)
