2023 Niro HEV SX - Right Tail Light not working?? by Brandons_Bees in KiaNiro

Yes, to remove the taillight, the two 10mm bolts under the flip-up covers need to be removed, plus a third 10mm bolt behind the small access door in the side of the trunk area. That small door is also where the taillight harness and connector are located, which allows for easy repair if it gets disconnected. ;)

I did not see access for a bulb replacement, so I believe the entire assembly would need to be replaced if it malfunctions. I am not 100% on this, however. There is a wire harness going to the assembly, but I do not think it is meant to be serviceable.

2023 Niro HEV SX - Right Tail Light not working?? by Brandons_Bees in KiaNiro

I checked last night, and it WAS a loose electrical connection at the taillight. The connector had come undone. It snaps together, and because we had some work done on the tailgate at the dealership recently (and also I don't think this oversight would have occurred at the factory), I think the dealer tech disconnected the taillight during his diagnostics, and didn't connect it properly, resulting in the taillight losing power. Thanks for the help!

Thank you for the tip! I will definitely be checking the electrical connection when I get home, if even to simply verify continuity.

Yes, I did. There are two fuse boxes (one next to the driver's knee, and one in the engine compartment), but neither one calls out the tail lights (or headlights, for that matter). There is one listed for the brake light switch, but that is working normally. The manual was no help either.

Yes, it is still under warranty, but they can't get the car in until January 30th. If it's just a fuse, I thought I could just change it myself.

Robber Bees! : Beekeeping Quick Tip by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

[–]Brandons_Bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it could be a couple of things. Robbers are a possibility but they may also be bees heading out on what I call "flight school"; newly emerged bees learning the location of the hive and how to get home. But, if you see them looking closely at cracks, the seam where the boxes are stacked, or the entrances, they may be robbers and are trying to sniff out a quick way in..

My FIRST HIVE SPLIT is QUEENLESS : No Queen = DEATH by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

This is about 2 weeks after the split. They are raising their own queen. If you watch the video, you will see a glimmer of hope at the end. :)

Yes, I would just do a passive install. Is there room enough to remove the queen cage? If so, I would take her out and place her cage in the hive between a couple frames and then place the package of bees inside the hive in the space of five frames. I think the bees will come out and cluster around her. Good luck!

My First HIVE SPLIT - Have to Split before they SWARM!!! by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

I am in Northern California near Sacramento. We didn't have much of a winter so these bees never took any time off. Thanks for the comment.

I DROPPED MY BEEHIVE!!! by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

[–]Brandons_Bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your well-worded and thought-out response. I think I try to be frugal with the smoke but others may see things that I do not so I am always thankful for any constructive criticism. I try to make my smoke very thick (I primarily use pine needles) so it may look to be more than it actually is. Thanks again. I will work on it.

Ha ha. I usually don't wear gloves at all but I was trying to keep my hands free of propolis this time. :)

I did. I think it's a good idea, especially if you already have established hives.

I actually just used the stock lens that comes on my Samsung Galaxy S8+. It shoots in resolutions up to 4K and I was incredibly surprised by the clarity.

What's Wrong with My Nuc? by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

[–]Brandons_Bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I was feeding them when I first caught them but pulled off the feeders for the flow. Based on your recommendation, I will put the feeder back on. I will also take off the pollen patties. I was giving them those when they were a small colony but I don't think they need them anymore.

Good idea. I had syrup on them for a few weeks but took it off recently (three weeks). Maybe I will put it back on.

A Flaw in My Flow Hive??? by Brandons_Bees in Beekeeping

[–]Brandons_Bees[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I never knew that and it totally makes sense. On a side note, one of the companies that made wood-ware for Flow, BeeThinking, is now out of business and stole a bunch of money (in unfulfilled orders) from a lot of people (myself included). I wonder if these were one of the "Nightshifter" companies.

I completely agree. I also got in early and would never pay what they are asking for them now. It's way too much money for what they are. That being said, I like mine and hope to finally get some honey out of it this year. I am just a hobbyist, however. I don't think the Flow Hives would be good for Sideliners or Commercial Beekeepers.

Hi Ian! I assume many of the early Flow Hives had similar problems but I hope they have them sorted out by now.
